When Ajax was little, we always took him out on a leash to the place we wanted him to go. When we got there, we said "hurry up" until he started to go and then lots of praise when he did. Also, a regular feeding time helps. Take him out about 30 minutes after he eats...first thing in the morning, last thing at night, and then about every 2 hours when you can. It didn't take long until he knew when we took him to that spot what he was supposed to do. After about a week he went there on his own. Hope this helps.

Restrict the area in which the pup is free to roam to the room you are in. Dogs don't soil in their den by nature, but peoples homes are so big (even the smallest of houses) and puppies don't understand. If he's restricted to smaller space and you watch him it'll be easier on the both of you. Consistency is the key, and he'll get it when you teach him in a way he'll understand. ;)

Ooooh, Phyl, I can tell you're in for some frustration. Some times (and I mean no disrespect to anyone or any breed of any size) the little guys can be more difficult to house train than the big ones.

Is there any pattern to when he goes? It might help if you made him come and ask for water when you're home with him, then watch him to see how long it takes him to have to go. Corgan's big enough that you can set a water dish for him that will be out of Nathan's reach. Leave Nathan's empty water dish on the floor so that he can go to it and scratch or bark or do whatever does to let you know he wants something. This will make it easier and less traumatic for both of you, and way less confusing for Nathan. Once you start to get an idea of how long it takes his water to run through him, you'll have a head start on catching him and taking him out before he gets a chance to have an accident. Then you can do the standard things, praising him, petting him, etc. It may take awhile, or he may pick up on the idea pretty quickly once you're able to catch him in the act a few times.

One word of caution, though, make sure you give Corgan attention when he goes. It wouldn't be unheard of for him to get jealous and start using the house again in order to get attention!

Milo, with any luck at all the puppies will follow the example of their mom and your other dog, but you'll have to help. It'll be awhile yet before you have to worry about that, though.

Hi,
I woudl take him off the deck to use the bathroom so he doesnt go on the deck. Or take him were you would rather have use the potty.

Usually, puppies need to go to the bathroom immediately after eating or drinking anything. Go outside with him, and place him on the grass, or wherever you want him to go.

my puppy is only 2 and a half months old and has been in my house for about 4 days and he already knows where to go. i never yelled when he went in the wrong place, just praised when he went in the correct place. he's had his share of accedents and i know there are more to come, but recently for about 2 days he's went in the right place every time. good luck!! :)

Milo, don't be surprised if your puppy doesn't have to go for 15 minutes or so after he's eaten. It usually takes some playing or a nap after eating to stimulate the digestive system that far down.
