Dante did very well on it then started to walk away from his bowl a little too much for my liking. I think he just wanted to go back to Timber Wolf (My wallet hates him for that)

Mine have been on it for almost 2 years without a problem. I always check the expiration date on the bag just in case.

Hmm, I do agree that Canidae has a smell to it.... compared to Innova, for example, I'd rather dish that out for my crew because it just smells better.. I can't explain it.

It seemed to be working well the first bag and maybe half of the second, then Bella started to slow down when eating it and she takes about two seconds to finish her meal. It was like I was bribing her to eat it. Banzai sniffs and walks away... it's all so frustrating, I wish they could talk!

Now that I am having problems with Adobe, though, I'm just going to switch it all out. The dogs have a bag and half left of the Canidae and since Buddy's not on it, I have some time to really research the foods and try some samples to see what Bella and Banzai like.

*sigh* Sooo frustrating.

Have you considered that they might be full? :)

We used to worry about little Herschel when he didn't eat but as soon as we stopped stressing, he started eating every meal. If we gave him 1/2 cup and he didn't finish it all, we gave him 1/3 of a cup the next time. If he didn't eat all of that, we would give him 1/4 of a cup. After eating that, he was probably hungry so at the next meal he finished his 1/3 of a cup. Right now, both dogs eat every bite of every meal without hesitation. They know that we aren't going to play games with them, and if they aren't hungry, that's fine by us.

Bella might be transitioning from puppy "eat as much as possible" to adult. We didn't notice it so much with Nala (she is 35lbs and she eats 2 cups/day), but Herschel went from nearly 3/4 cup per meal to 1/3 cup over the course of a couple of weeks.

I thought so and I was like, wow, maybe they are regulating their own eating, but both Banzai and Bella have lost an almost alarming amount of weight. Bella- is understandable, she was on some pretty heavy pain meds for the week prior to her surgery that affected her appetite. Then afterwards she would sniff and then walk away without eating anything.
Same with Banzai. I started to add some canned and I mixed it really well and they'll eat it. But if I don't add it, they, 80% of the time, won't eat it.

Bella is definitely transitioning from the "I know my food won't disappear if I don't finish it in two seconds" phase, but she is still gungho about treats and turkey. :p

Have you tried the different types of canidae? Sometimes Hannah wouldn't eat the regular ALL LIFE STAGES but would eat the chicken meal formula.

By handled, what do you mean, Herschel?
If the food was exposed to heat, moisture, etc. it could change the smell and the nutritional value. Did you check the expiration date? Where/how was it stored?

As Grammy mentioned, she had a bag once that was exposed to water, and as a result, the bottom of it had mold on it. The water probably didn't come from Pied Piper (the facility in Texas that makes Canidae), but rather from the dog washing place in Indiana that sells the Canidae.

Was it alarming or was it almost alarming? ;)

I guess I'm spoiled by good luck. In one year, Herschel's weight went from 17.4lbs to 17.0lbs. Nala has gained weight steadily and is in top shape right now. I understand your concern--if they suddenly lost weight I would probably start to second guess the food, too.

How does Banzai look? Is he in good shape or did the weight loss make him too skinny? I know Banzai isn't in a puppy stage by any means, but at one point I thought Hershel's ideal weight was 25lbs and he got up to 22 or so. I was off by 25% of his body weight!

I just switched to Canidae and am having nothing but good results. The first day I switched my pack was a little gassy, but then again I switched straight. My dogs LOVE it! They eat it without a fuss.
