We have to empty the kitchen and bathrooms, someone in the building complained about roaches. :( So every cabinet had to be emptied and appliances pulled out or removed if possible, and only he and I were home to do it.

We discussed the birds in great detail. He doesn't even want them, and is actually really upset with his girlfriend, our other roomie, for having them at all since she pays no attention to them. He also said that I and my boyfriend should in no way be responsible for them and he, at least, doesn't expect us to be, which is a big load off of my mind (and was brought up at all because I was attempting to buy them a new toy today but couldn't find one that would fit in their cage, which he also said he is buying a new one because his girlfriend doesn't seem to get the concept that the one they are in is way too tiny even for one of them).

I have a feeling this next year is going to be MUCH better, and much smoother. He appreciates that I take care of my animal and theirs even when I'm not directly asked (or apparently outright expected), and that I intend to make sure the ferret I get doesn't eat the birds (though he semi-jokingly said he'd look the other way if he ever saw it slink up to one of them on the ground...nature being nature and all :rofl1: ).
He did mention he still wants to bring in a dog. I'm over that at this point, and am allowed to have my ferret without argument, so I can wait on a dog. He wants a Great Dane though, but said he plans to wait until we're just here a few more months. He even has a good breeder picked out (he looked up the breeder checklist I suggested and everything!) and is well-aware of their health issues, which made me glad, he has done his research, he deserves a dog if it will make him happy and be taken care of, and he is much more responsible than his girlfriend when it comes to that, I think.

SO MUCH RELIEF. :hail:

In other news, I am sleeping normally again. More :hail: on that front as well.

In other other news, I mistakenly fell in love with a pet store ferret kit today. He was the sweetest guy, has been overlooked at the store because they've had trouble litter training him (though he just seems to go in the cage, they said he doesn't do it nearly as much when he's out running around and will go back to the cage to do it). He tried to steal my ring right off my finger and almost undid my earring, but gave me a kiss on the cheek. I loved him, I did not, however, love his $250 price tag. Forget that. Forget ALL of that. I hope he goes to a good home.

AAAAND I'm done *breath*

I really am pissed about the roach issue.

It seems like every other month they invade the apartments. I'd never lived in an apartment before moving to Canada so I don't know about all this stuff, but even at our old place they only came in once, to check the smoke detector to make sure it was actually there (of course we took it down after they checked because we're terrible people).
They are just so invasive here. I hate it. Especially because I'm home alone all day so I'm the one here when they come in.

They say this is some new odourless gel they're using to kill the roaches. They ALSO said that once they start putting the gel down, we may see an increase in roach sightings! GREAT! The only places they aren't treating are the bedrooms and the living room, the places we spend the most amount of time in! I just hope that Rock, in all his bug-eating glory, can handle a roach if he sees it. He's taken on some nasty looking beetles, a house centipede, spiders (of varying sizes! a favourite snack), a ladybug (it peed on him and he lost that battle so now he leaves ladybugs alone) and several unknown critters that reminded me of silverfish *shudder*. EUGH.

I remember my first roach encounter. It was a stare-down, and I was little and fearless. Back then, I'd pick up any bug. ANY bug.

Then when I was about 19 I stayed in my sister's apartment for a week and was playing on her kitchen floor one night with the cats and saw a roach come out of the vent and go into the pantry where the food was.
I slowly stood up, jumped to the couch and didn't move until daylight. That was that.

Yah, make sure to put the smoke detector in if they come in -- if not, they will fine you, it's a law. We get in trouble almost every time, cause we forget to put it back up :p (it's right outside the kitchen, and it is SO SENSITIVE, it goes off if the kettle is on). Luckily our maintenance guy is awesome and looks the other way as we scramble to put it on when he gets there.

ANYWAY, back to the point.

I wish you were closer, this girl I have now would be PERFECT, even though she's older. I'm heartbroken that she isn't going to work out :(

Ours was STUPID sensitive. It went off one day when our neighbours were grilling on the balcony (they weren't supposed to be doing that I don't think). And it would sometimes go off just...when it seemed to feel like it. Just reminding you it was there. "Hello, I'm up here, you never talk to me, but I watch you, all the time, just passing by, never looking up, yes, hello, alright then".

I'm sorry she's not working out. :(
I almost bought a cage today but Ry didn't text me back with a definitive yes/no on the price in time so we left without it. We may go back over the weekend though. I am trying to get to this Game of Thrones exhibit, too. So much to do, so little times and moneys.

I am prepared to have the cage set up and sitting ferret-less in the corner for weeks. It will make me sad, but I'm determined. I will not go ferret-less. I will not slink for it.

THAT'S your zombie plague, right there. Smoke detectors. Why are we not harnessing the power that keeps these little shits alive for so long?

Our apartment has roaches too, and they've sprayed multiple times in the kitchen and bathroom, but it doesn't seem to work. My roommate also put out roach traps a while ago, and those killed a few but they aren't very effective. I hate randomly seeing a roach taking a stroll across my dresser in the night. Its so annoying. I wish I could figure out something to do about them. :(

I also feel your pain on the sensitive smoke detectors. They go off whenever we cook something on the stove. Last night I made fish in the skillet and it went off. It also likes to go off when we open the oven, I guess its really heat sensitive.
