Not only have I been poorly but Gus has been in a bad way too!!! :( He got heatstroke after he chased off over the fields after a cat and wouldn't come back. The temperature has been constantly over 45 degrees here for the last month so it's not suprising that he got ill!! I had to call out the Vet on an emergency visit because he was wobbly and disorientated, the vet said that the extreme heat can effect the brain so it was a good job that I called him out so promptly, although he was not happy about being called out at 9pm on a Friday night!! Gus's temperature was over 39.4 degrees, which is incredibly high as he is normally around 37.7!! I was SOOOOOO frightened, I honestly thought I was going to lose him!! The vet gave him a shot and told me what I had to do, as far as cooling him down was concerned and luckily he has made a full recovery!

Very scary business indeed!!

OMG - poor Gus - thank goodness you got the vet out! Heat stroke is a scary thing. I'm glad he is okay now, what a time you've been having!

 poor Gus!!! SOO glad that you caught it in time!!

I have been told that if your dog is over heating, put rubbing alcohol on the pads of their feet. It cools them off quickly.

poooooorrrr Gus!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When i had heat stroke the stomach cramping folded me in half and the rest was just as unpleasant. So good you got him cooled down in time. I had a guy comment that a dog would know when to stop when it was hot..and i thought your a fool, no they dont, Vic would run until he fell over. kisses and and a good scratch for Gus, glad he is still with us! That must have been horrible for you too!:(

Scary! None of us could lose gus I don't think.
I Know!! The vet was a bit po-ed because I got him out on a Friday evening, but I was like "Hey, this is what I pay you for!! If you wanted a 9-5 job, you shouldn't be a vet!" The next day when he saw Gus back to normal he was really apologetic, he could really see the difference in him! I was like Neeerrrrrrrrr! :p So much for me being neurotic huh!
