Today at the park there was a really neat looking dog. He looked like a Samoyed, but his white coat was tipped with grey and his tail was completely grey. At first I thought he was just really dirty from far away, but when he came to visit me, he wasn't. His fur was just a strange colour. I would have asked his owner, but I wasn't sure who he belonged to. Maybe he was a mix of some sort... I have no idea.

That's CUTE. He does sort of look dirty though...like he rolled in soot or something.

Maybe he was a mix? He looks very samoyd to me, though, and I've never seen a chow that color. He seriously looks like a dirty samoyd...weird!

He's awsome looking - I dont think I have ever seen a dog that color o_O

As far as I know the sammy color is caused by the same locus that causes white in shepherds and eskies....and if the dog is colored the color should be cream tones or biscuiting....maybe he's a mix....or it might be a mutation.

Either way - beautiful!

Once upon a time sammys came in white, black and white and black.. It's said by some sammy fanciers that the stunning white was so popular that the other colours died out. Now, pure white, white and biscuit and cream are the norm.. but the standard still is written to exclude all other colours as apparently while rare blacks have shown up from time to time but it's rare as heck now..

Grey isn't a written about colour though that dog is super pretty. I'd guess it's a mix.

Yeah, I think it was probably a mix too. It looked, moved, and behaved all sammy though. Well, aside from the weird colour.

could be a chow or chow sammie mix. Chows can come in black and blue, so wouldnt they also be able to come in gray, or the color of that dog?

Blue is a steel gray color, sometimes with silver shadings as in the blacks. Blue can range from a very dark bluish gray (similar to new blue jeans) to a lighter silvery-bluish color (like very faded blue jeans). The muzzle and legs have a "salt and pepper" mixture of light and dark hairs, giving them a "frosted" look. Some blues have brown shadings in their coats and blues can also "rust" in the sun. Noses on blue Chows are often gray or slate-colored. This is the only color of Chow where a black nose is not required, but the nose must not be brown
^^ thats what I found

The dog does look blue, except most blues I have seen have far more even coloring than that.. maybe the long hair has something to do with it.

Hello Toller_8!
My sister sent me this post today (not sure how she found it 13 years later) and that was my dog Oscar! He was a Samoyed, Chow, Shepard Cross. He passed away when he was 16 years old in 2018, and he was the only grey pup out of his litter! The litter was: brown, black and white. No one wanted Oscar, so they gave him away for free to my family! He was an amazing dog that loved to get dirty and play. His favourite thing in the entire world was going for walks; especially at the dog park. This was such a nice find today!
