<sigh> Grades. Last term sucked for me. The only thing that got done to me was my WoW time was reduced, which didnt last long.
I would be happy with a C to be honest. Im happy if i get a passing grade at all.
My dad doesnt really believe when i tell him i worked my A$$ off for even a D. But i know i did so i dont argue.

... and like PWC said, if you think you have too much work now just wait until college.
Heck, I'm not even technically in college yet! I take all honors/AP courses, and after school I head up to the local college for classes. :p

Maxy, i'd talk to your parents about how you want to improve your grades but you need their help and support. tell them some ideas you have about improving. Also, talk to your teachers! They'll want to help you. Ask them to remind you about projects or long term work each day before it's due.

Make a list. Seriously. It sounds like the lamest thing ever but it works. I'm kind of the same as you when it comes to homework. I daydreamed. I'd get everything out and plan on doing it, really, really, really plan on doing but, but i'd sit staring at it for an hour and get NOTHING done. i'm also the worst procrasinator in history. I had a teacher who wrote down everything i owed him (A LOT), like every little piece of it. For example, i had to analyze an article every week, and i was missing like, 7, so on a piece of paper he wrote "current event analysis" seven times. Then he told me to hightlight what i'd finished in blue. He'd also tell me exactly what to do, and when to do it. If you give yourself 1/2 hour to do a math ditto, work on it for a half hour. if you don't finish, take a little break, then go back for another 1/2 hour.

I personally have been amazed how many students are on Chaz ... and even when in class !!! Too many think of school as a " have to " rather than a privilege to prepare themselves for the future . As bright as most of you seem here , I would think a C would wake you up !!! Homework should be done at a desk or table ...no TV , no telephone , etc. In high school we never had study hour .... HW was usually 3 or 4 hours . I loved to finish by 10 PM so I had an hour to do something I wanted to for an hour .

I personally consider a bad grade a C.. but it depends on the class. When I was taking AP history I was thrilled with a C. In English anything less than an A is downright embarrassing. My English teacher used to tell me to hang out with her during lunch when I had gotten anything less than an A or a very high B on things and explain why. She expected 100% out of me on everything, and I don't blame her, because she had a class I could and did do well in.

In math.. depends on the teacher! I suck at match, but I had one teacher who made it so that I could get As and Bs. In my last math class I was crying with relief when I scraped by with a C.

In PE.. well... LOL. I made sure I passed with a D, but that was the extent of me caring.

Haaa ha ha ha ha - I hardly ever have homework in college. =P
High school was FAR worse. They tell you "ohhh, just wait until you're in college!" and then you get to college and it's easier.
And then in college they say "OHHH just wait until you're in grad school!" and then grad school is even easier than that. =P

If you're definitely having a problem understanding your chemistry class, you should absolutely speak up to your parents or ask your teacher if there's a way you can get extra help. Don't let yourself get passed over if you don't understand something, or you will NEVER catch up. Your education is yours, hon, you have to take control of it.

my college was much harder then high school and now law school IS much harder then that.

I think it all depends where you go to college and what major you take.

Oh come on! AP History is like the funnestest class EVAR! :D
It was fun.. I adored my teacher, and what we learned was cool. But I suck at taking notes.. I need to know EXACTLY what I should be writing down, because I just cant filter the information as quickly as I need to and figure out what I should be writing down. That makes me have crappy, messy notes.. and I get confused reviewing them... and then I get behind because of than and I'm still trying to figure out what I should scribble down when we start on something else.. ARGH...

Well I'm a Freshman in highschool, and I set high expectations for myself because I know I'm capable of getting A's. I was extremely happy when I found out I got straight A's all first semester this year. For myself I consider anything below a B a bad grade. However if I'm thinking of students in general, I would say a C isn't great, but D and F's were bad.

I know how you feel when it comes to pushing yourself to do homework. I try to do mine right when I get home so I can get it over with. With projects, I do procrastinate as well, especially with essays. But I constantly remind myself that I'm going to need to get it done eventually. Try pacing yourself. Break a big project down into small pieces and set aside a little bit of time to work on it each day. Before you know it it will be over.

OH I forgot to mention it also depends on grading scale. Some of them are typical ten point scale.. some SUCK.... and are much less than that, 6-7 pt scale. That would be mine. It makes it much harder to get good grades.

My Canadian friend only is a failure if she gets a 40... I fail below 70. BIG difference.

All we have in college is papers and exams... no real "homework," you know? Maybe it's just my perspective, LOL, but I'd rather write a bunch of papers than do homework every night! I'm quite good at writing papers... my only problem is when they put a maximum on the pages. =P

Hey maxy, I'm in the same grade as you... do your teachers grade homework on completion? What I tend to do is try to finish all my homework in an hour or hour and a half, for the questions I don't get I will guess and BS an explanation (you should see my math homework, lol). I've started doing that recently and so far I've gotten 100%'s on my homework (that's with my regular and AP courses). But of course, that means you need to focus during class and study before tests.... which I guess can be a drag if you want to sleep during classes.

So yeah, just giving you some advice... the homework doesn't have to be all correct, it just needs to be done.

I learn for myself, not for my parents. So for me a 'bad grade' is when I didn't study and didn't do well on a test, or did do well on a test. I go to school because I want to, I don't have to go. I could have stopped going to school and 10th grade and have gotten a job, but I didn't because I have set a goal for myself. YES I do have a D on my Report card in Chemistry because we only had 2 weeks of Chemistry and I was sick for one of them and was extremely confused at what was going on through out the whole week that I was there. That, for me is acceptable because I wasn't able to learn what was on the test. I'll have to do better next time, and I'm planning on dropping chemistry next year anyways. For me, I consider a bad grade, when I didn't study or anything for a class... I didn't try my best. Of Course my parents arn't happy when I get a bad grade, but most of the time I get somewhere between 12 and 15 NP (We have a different grading system where we have 0 - 15 points. 15 being the best. It would be an A+ on your grading system, 14 points would be a straight A, 13 an A- and so on.)
You also can't be good at everything - some people are, but its extremly rare. So don't beat yourself up about a bad report card; life goes on, and you'll just have to do better next time, FOR YOU and not for your Parents. Getting good grades with help you achieve YOUR goals and dreams, thats why you should work to get good grades, not because your parents want you to. We keep getting told from our teachers that next year will be the real deal, we will get points for our Abitur, for which we need good grades. No one is making us take those Exams, except us.

BTW, our homework is never checked anymore. We have to do the homework for ourselves because we want to. Most people do their homework regularly because it really does help and improves your in-class work.

Anything below a B+ to me is a bad grade. I wouldn't call a B+ bad, but I wouldn't like to see that either.

(80 - 89% is a B. B+ would probably be about an 87% or higher I think)

To me, a bad grade is a C. Bs are okay I guess, but I tend to start to worry when I'm in the B range. The grading system at my college is a lot more lenient than it was in high school, which is awesome. Relieves a little bit of the pressure I always felt in high school. I had to take Honors/AP courses and maintain at least a B+ in all of them. I hated high school, lol.

Wrong.

AP Calc is. :D

Yes, Grammy 49% is still a fail in Canada, at least in Nova Scotia.

Homework is important, and even though I was an honour student in grade school I didn't realize at the time just how important they really were. And your grades DO follow you throughout your life. My husbands best friend decided last fall that he wanted to return to school to pursue another career path. In high school he just skimmed by and now that he is in his 30's it came back to bite him. He had to return to adult high school to improve his grades. Don't get me wrong, he is very smart, but didn't care about his grades when he was in school. He did return to adult school, made wonderful grades and is now in college.
