Good news in the paper today. The animal control shelter that I got Nike from is getting a new manager. She is hoping to decresae euthenization by 50percent because yes, it is sadly a kill shelter. I got Nike on a Sat. I believe she had come on Friday and I'm pretty sure she had until Monday, I think thats what her paper said. Anyways, heres the sad facts about the shelter as it used to be- In 2005, nearly 64% of the 6,433 animals there were euthanized (including those labeled dangerous or sick) September this year, 68% of 5432 cats and dogs were euthanized. The new manager plans to use a more aggresive advertising campiegn, more in-depth community ed. program and hopefully renew the participation in a washington state university pprogram that allows vet students to learn to spay and neuter animals using strays.
