We've had a gazillion topics like this, but not in awhile, so time for a new one!
What breeds would you like to own in the future? If you already have purebred dogs, do you want to continue keeping what you have now, branch out to new breeds, or both? What interests you about these breeds?

I love threads like this. Begin!
I'm adding a GSD this weekend.
Kelpie is 100% on my list for next agility dog when Limit someday retires (20 years from now!). I'm making contacts and researching etc now.

Breeds I'm interested in that DH actually likes too:
Border Terrier (he wants a JRT but I am pushing for BT)
Chessie
Bully breed of some sort, probably a rescue as a lazy house pet

Possibilities that I doubt will happen:
Mudi
Field Golden
Field Spaniel
StaffyBull

I love Spaniels. I know ESS very well so I may just stick to them for the rest of my life, but I am not opposed to Fields, Welshies, or Cockers either.

Breeds that appeal to me:
Labs
Belgians
Tollers
English Shepherds
Brittanys
Goldens (mostly just because of one breeder though)

Most important requirement for me right now is that the breed as a whole is NOT known for being DA. I also don't want to have to worry about the safety of my cats.

I love how I acquired Gabby, so more than likely I will be doing a foster-to-adopt situation again.

you probably don't really want a feist. feists are working bred terriers and IN GENERAL their temperaments & personalities are NOTHING like the herders you mention. if you look you might find an individual feist similar in personality & temperament to the herders you like but they will be few and far between.
Sorry, I wasn't clear enough.I have no desire to own the breed.I need to be more clear in my wording.

Feist the individual dog (the BC), not the breed.
Yes, this what I actually meant.

I'd love to have another GSD with a more sport oriented pedigree, probably full-czech lines or czech/west mix. I'd also like an APBT, Rottie, czech vlcak, and a doberman. My husband is into Mastiff type dogs, so those will be in the future as well.

I think about this a lot. There are a number of sporting and herding breeds I'd like to own, but not sure which I will actually have.

- FCR
- field spaniel
- field bred golden
- English shepherd
- Aussie
- Koolie

My next dog will hopefully be a daughter of Watson, as some people have expressed interest in breeding to him if he passes health tests. I think he has a fantastic temperament for the breed and I'd like another similar to him. Otherwise I'll probably get a female from someone breeding his relatives.

I think after that I want a male herding dog, likely an ES (if I can get one Hudson or Quinn sized) or an Aussie.

Then probably back to Welshies. There are other sporting breeds I'd like to own, but I'll likely just stick with Welsh because they fit what I want very well.

A Rat Terrier will be joining our house in the fall if everything goes well (breeding takes & there's a suitable performance pup).

Then in five years or so I'd really like a Koolie -- when they're more established here or I have suitable time to travel to Australia and bring one back.

What breeder are you going to for your Rat Terrier?

I'm a little all over the board.

I've considered Toy poodles, Paps, Shelties, Border Collie, Tervuren, Aussies, longhaired whippets, and GSD's.

Up until last year we had 3 border collies (2 seniors and a 4 year old) and a Brittany (2 years), but sadly lost our 2 senior citizen BCs last spring. So technically we have some "vacancies".

Around June/July 2015 we will add another Brittany. Gael will be turning 6 and Scout will be 3.5.

I would like to add another BC too (really i woudl like to before the Brit pup haha) but I don't want too many dogs too close in age. I will try and wait another 3 years after the Brit pup to add another BC, it helps that Gael is a perfect Angel of a dog.

Breeds for someday:
Vizsla: love them, nearly got one before we found Scout as Brittanys are very rare in NZ, OH was more keen on Brittanys though.
Saluki: Just very very beautiful dogs
Rottweiler: love them too, especially the one who lives 2 houses down, he is the poster child for gorgeous Rottweilers.
Other herders: maybe, I do like working line BCs but also common in agility here are NZ heading dogs (like a leggy short-coat BC), working kelpies and lately Koolies.

Pretty much this! :) I don't think I will ever be without a longhaired whippet or two. My next dog will hopefully be a Cricket grandkid out of one of Newton's siblings.

There are some other breeds I'd like to own, though - I think my 2x next dog might be either an Italian Greyhound or a Cirneco (this would be at least 5 or 6 years down the road). I also want to own a larger sighthound at some point (probably a Greyhound, but a Scottish Deerhound or Borzoi are possibilities). I'm interested in some of the herding breeds too, especially Aussies, ES, and Koolies. I'd love to own another collie at some point as well.

I like Papillons and the powderpuff Chinese Cresteds too but haven't spent a ton of time around either breed.

Some day maybe! I'm still put off by having to neuter in order to register with AKC though, which makes me lean towards a recognized breed. And I don't want an 80lb fluff ball ES (not that there's anything wrong with that ;) ) so I'd need to research lines. I really just want a Hudson, but maybe in sable.

The other real possibilities would be a BC or a Border/staff/stack/sport mix.
.

Oh yeah - you know you want some BS crazy love! :)

Gnome is the last puppy for the next 5(ish) years so I really don't know what would come after her. I'd be incredibly interested in:

- If her mom had a pure SBT litter.

-A little sporty-sport mix from some of my favorite SBT, BC, Whippet lines. BS/Whippet? SBT/Whippet? SBT/BW?
