if i were adopting a pointer, and i didn't want to spend the rest of my life trying to figure out how to wear one out, i would look at a mix. Bronki was a labrador pointer cross, he had all the intelligence plus those beautiful eyes that the german shorthair has, but not the spikey fur. Bronki's grandfather's fur would set me up in hives from the pokey hair, Victor's is as soft as a new born baby. They are a high breed..and if they are mixed with a more reasonable breed (like the labrador) you get something a bit more calm. (not that i am advocating cross breeds) but if i were looking to adopt..i would go for a lab/pointer. I thought Mary's daddy was a speed demon but oh my..Victor is something else. I Love all the hunting class, i don't know why pointers pull my heart strings but they do. I will always want a really smart dog..and Victor IS all of that. I wondered why u were looking at the gsh site..i guessed but did'nt say anything. ;) I wish u could have met my Bronki. He was so calm, and wise, and loving. Victor is smart, and active and more active on top of that, and loving..sometimes i would like to turn him down just a notch or too, but he is doing better much better than even a few months ago. The figure 8's in front of the door were ..oh my..it was as if he was going to walk himself right there if i wasn't willing to come along.I think Mary's tired of the figure 8's in the back of the car..and she has for the first time in her life..moved tot the front of the bus. I am pretty sure that is why. Meagan's a beauty..they grow up to be such graceful dogs..Ny neighbor said she loved to watch Bin run back and forth for he looked like a walking horse..he picked his feet up high and had quite a handsome gait.

My dad retires from his desk job next year so he will be on full time call out for the humane disposal of injured animals like Deer etc. Also he will be working with the Rangers who help villages who are under siege from Wild Boar! They move in and take over villages as they are so nasty people are afraid to leave their houses!! Seriously it gets that bad!! Last year they moved into a Bus shelter! And Dad's Springer Barley is perfectly trained for Phesants and Game birds but he is not a Pointer! He won't alert Dad to a Wild Boar until it is too late!! So I was thinking that I may get a Pointer this year and start it's training so it will be good to go by next year! I was only a thought though!

sounds like a grand one! wild boar wow..i wonder what Vic would do if he saw one of those..the instinct is strong to freeze first..the pic of him and MAry at the tarp..was actually a point and honor point..they stood there for a very long time. Any other dogs would have given ol Eddie the nudge he so deserved..pointers are polite.

that is my all time favorite art..what is made in the moment..for fun! At the tute one fall the students raked up the leaves (all a brilliant yellow from the hundred year old ginko trees) and formed a very long arrow that went right up to financial aid..it must have been done in the night, but when i saw it not one leaf was out of line, and the line coiled around..it was beautiful.

That could be a very quick and gruesome death dealing with a wild boar! Wild boar are blindingly quick and agile - one of the most dangerous kinds of quarry to hunt . . .

You want a dog that isn't fragile and is fierce, but that has an instinct to be able to keep itself in one piece. There are quite a few breeds that have been used for hunting boar down through the ages. Filas are even used for boar as well as jaguar. The Wolfhounds were also used for boar hunting and there are many types of hunting molossers. The guardian breeds (molossers) will be more likely to understand that their job is to seek and keep the quarry at bay and not rush in. It's very important to get dogs from lines that are bred to the hunt - not show lines. The temperament and the abilities that are so important for survival are the very things that are bred down in the show lines.

Wild boar is often considered to be the most dangerous quarry in Europe, and in South America, where the jaguar is king, even the jaguar will think twice before putting pork on the menu!

I will look into it!! My neighbour also has Doggo Argentino (sp?) And they are quite formidable dogs!! I only mentioned German Shortahired Pointers because that seems to be the dog of choice here!! Along with Englishe setters, and French Beagles (which are more like Fox hounds in my opinion!!) Some of the men even use Golden Retrievers!! I know very little about it at the moment and it wasn't a concrete decision!! I just like the look of Pointers too! And I want you to understand that I would never do anything to deliberatley harm my animals!!! I love them to death!! I would never put them willingly into a situation where thay could be harmed!!

Oh, Gustav, I know it would just kill you if something happened to a dog while out hunting like that. That's why I wanted to warn you about it. You might want to check out some of the different breeds at www.molosserdogs.com

I can spend hours there looking at all the beautiful dogs, lol!

I will have a shufty!!
A woman just came to the door with a Dogue De Bordeaux and asked me if she was mine!! The lady knew I had a dog that was all! I said no, but she's soooo adorable I would take her in a second!! :D The woman laughed, and she said she would go up and ask at the vets if they knew who she belongs to!! Maybe someone up there has spoken to me!! lol! :D

Ah ha!! This is obviously what the French mean when they say Beagle! : http://www.molosserdogs.com/modules.php?name=Encyclopedia&op=content&tid=2930

Very interesting!! Because when I think of a Beagle I think English Beagle little stocky dog!! :D
