Basically everything Greenmagick said. I'm following somewhat - I'm willing to bet more than the average American, but less than people REALLY following the situation.

All I can say is that the entire situation is shocking and I'm
having a hard time believing it's happening in this day and age. But it is, and that's terrifying.
Yeah, geeze nothing is worth this kind of violence. What people will get violent over never ceases to amaze me.

This is the majority of what is going on in Ferguson

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/08/19/ferguson-good-news_n_5689027.html

And, yes, there was ANOTHER police shooting in north city today. This guy, yes, was armed with a knife. He was also mentally ill according to reports. Tragic...

eta: todays shooting does seem to be totally justified. Its tragic because police arent trained to deal with the mentally ill AND the resources often arent there to help. It seems he was known in the area as the people around were all yelling he was mentally ill during the altercation.

that's real ****ing rich coming from someone who has repeatedly said she'd shoot someone for merely walking on their property.

Go away
How my willing to fire upon someone who is CRIMINALLY TRESPASSING on property where it is posted the same as this??? This is happening on PUBLIC land, they aren't trespassing on someone's property and I think the police are making things far worse than they need to be.

I don't know where you live but here there is no police presence, there are one or two deputies to patrol an entire county, it may take them an hour to get to us if they can find us at all. So yes I will shoot someone if I feel my life is being threatened k thanks.

you are willing to get violent over trespassing....not in and of itself a danger to you.

but you mock people with deep seated issues that go back generations...with anger that is boiling over with no place to go...yeah, makes sense:rolleyes: There are MANY things worth fighting for...

I mock no one, demonstrations are happening, it's the police who are making things worse. I would never make fun of people who are assembling, it's the stupid people who are rioting, looting, using this as an excuse to execute criminal activity, those are the people I "mock".

I saw an article today about the store owners and their lawyer trying to distance the store from shooting. I recognized him, my wife worked for him while she was in law school in St. Louis. I walked in a parade for him when he was running for State Treasurer, though I never knew him very well. Small world I guess.

Sigh....so we have one officer who was suspended for pointing a rifle at protesters and saying he was going to "****ing kill" them. We have one suspended for posting lies on his twitter (talking about the people tear gassed in their own back yard, he said they were firing shots at the officers. Besides that not being true, he also wasnt even at that area so wouldnt know regardless). And now...two more

http://www.stltoday.com/news/local/...6-aeb2-d13238a9fdc2.html#.U_fiAsZk0z0.twitter

Glendale officer Matthew Pappert was also suspended after posting on social media that he thought the Ferguson protesters should be "put down like rabid dogs."
and

Among Page's rambling comments in the hour-long video:

• "Muslims are passive until they gain parity with you or they exceed you in numbers and they will kill you."

• "Roy Blunt and Claire McCaskill won't even talk to me. They say 'You're an extremist.' I say amen. OK. And I'm real good with a rifle. My best shot is at 1,875 meters. I got me a gold star on that one. That's a fact. You run from me you will die tired. I'm dead serious, folks."

• "I personally believe in Jesus Christ as my lord savior, but I'm also a killer. I’ve killed a lot. And if I need to, I'll kill a whole bunch more. If you don't want to get killed, don't show up in front of me, it's that simple. I have no problem with it. God did not raise me to be a coward," he said before warning the audience that he believes the government will put kids in indoctrination camps.

• "I'm into diversity. I kill everybody, I don't care."

Page says on the video that he is a former Green Beret who did nine combat tours and took early retirement from the military because he refuses to take orders from "an undocumented president."

Your point?

The New Black Panthers were leading the crowd in chanting for Officer Wilson's death, while CNN and KSDK showed his home and the Washington Post published his address. No apologies for endangering the officer, his family and his neighbors, except from KSDK.

Then there's Missouri State Senator Jamilah Nasheed's statement. "If you should decide not to indict this police officer, the rioting we witnessed this past week will seem like a picnic compared to the havoc that will likely occur." 'Nice' threat from an elected official...

Governor Nixon has called for the vigorous PROSECUTION of Officer Wilson, not a vigorous investigation, so it seems his fate may already be decided, regardless of facts or circumstances.

Irresponsible behavior on both sides in the aftermath but only the cops' bad behavior seems to be scrutinized by the media... just saying...

I couldn't disagree more. All I saw on headlines was about rioting and looting. Very little if any mention of the police instigating it, of tha majority of the protesters being peaceful etc. the medias take did start to take a bit of a turn after they started seeing with their own eyes what was happening.

And in all the live feeds I watched I did not see chanting for his death so it's not like it was a common battle cry nor the main driving force in any sense.

My point is exactly what I said. The police in SOME areas are very corrupt and too many assholes with huge prejudice are allowed a badge and weapon. They have the power and authority so it's on them to fix it and set the tone. Anyone who has their eyes open knows the deep problems of the area, especially north county.

I would propose marriage to you right now if there weren't about six other chaz ladies who'd jump me over it. :rofl1:

To the actual thread: I've been following some of it, but not enough. I'm disturbed but not surprised at all..

I am still trying to understand what my stance on trespassing has to do with this :/

Because you have previously asserted you would shoot someone for simply trespassing, then said "What people will get violent over never ceases to amaze me."
I have already explained that trespassing is a serious problem here. The arrival of the oil drilling has lead a lot of people to break into properties after the copper the drilling companies use so they can sell it. We have had to lock out gate on both sides, the open side and the hinge side because someone tried to take it off. Just two weeks ago, someone cut the chain.

So yes, totally different deal.

Most of the people are peacefully protesting there is no need for violence in this situation. So many innocent people have been hurt.

The person who cuts my fence or my chain on my gate is NOT innocent, and I have animals and elderly parents to protect. So yes, in a "it's us or them" situation, I will choose us k thanks.

The person who cuts my fence or my chain on my gate...
Well, you asked for explanation of what your attitude towards trespassers has to do with anything, and I answered. FWIW, I think these kind of statements are what leave people scratching their heads. You are willing to get violent over what someone might do - really, is cutting a gate to potentially scrounge for copper an "us or them" situation requiring shooting them? - not what they have actually done.

At least (some of) the violence in Ferguson is (at least ostensibly) over something that (probably) actually happened and continues to happen.

Get it now?

So, of those examples I gave, NO ONE is responsible for their actions and it's all the fault of the police? The police instigated the looting and rioting?? They get screamed at, bricks, rocks and urine thrown at them, along with firebombs, and you're blaming them for responding? How many civilians were hurt by cops in those riots? None. The only injuries were to the cops, but it's their fault for being there? Then people got angry when they stayed away and looters ran rampant.

Yes, there are people who shouldn't be cops, and then there are the race-baiters like Al Sharpton, who can also set the tone but instead fuel the fire. Who calls him out? No one.

Maybe you should expand your viewing choices, I saw the footage of the chanting, as well as people in the crowd insisting there wouldn't be justice until Wilson was tried AND FOUND GUILTY. Why bother with a trial? They want his head on a platter. The same news channel also reported how most of the crowd was peaceful and a lot of the agitators were not from Ferguson, as well as providing coverage of residents helping shopkeepers clean up after the looting.

Yes, there are deep problems in north county but it's not ALL on the cops. There was a man shot (not by the cops) during the riot and the cops couldn't even get through the crowd to get to the guy. NOT one person came forward to identify the shooter or even admit they saw the shooting. I get that people don't trust the cops, but how are the cops supposed to do their job if no one cooperates? That's like calling the fire department about a fire, not giving them the address and then blaming them for the house burning down.
