I do like the new game posted today, though I haven't been able to watch the video since I'm at work. It's pretty similar to other focus stuff we've done, and some of the focus stuff from the Get Focused class. I do like the emphasis on playing different games each time to keep the dog interested.

I'm glad to hear other people are finding the videos for the prey drive class not that helpful, and more confusing than just reading the instructions. I thought maybe it was just me.

Louis is doing great with all the games, with the exception of holding the toy still. We haven't gotten very far with that one.

The video is "meh." I think someone brought this up but the instructions sound like you should be really engaging playing with your dog and in the video she isn't at all. She's kind of wandering the room. Maybe that's after the dog has been worked a bunch? I don't know.

Yep we're in bronze :) And just joined the lurker group last night. I was gonna sit down last night and do the homework in a word document but just got lazy lol. But that's cool we're doing the exercises, I just wish the weather didn't suck so bad so I had motivation to do it away from the house.

I also would like to videotape but again... I'm terrible and it's easier not to!
Haha, me too! I have the basics in my head, just have been too busy/lazy to type them up to post.

Didn't video, but I did get a bunch of little RFT sessions into our walk this morning before work. That was pretty fun. The hardest part is turning out to be not throwing in other things like holding out for offered focus, waiting for heel, etc. Bad trainer lol.

Scout saw another dog out pottying at a distance, so threw some BAT in. Lily never even saw it since I had treats/clicker out. Hussy for food...

I'm learning that I totally suck at this online class thing. I mean, I probably should have known that from how terrible I was when I took online classes of my own in college.

I was pumped when they started and was checking in daily and now... I kind of forget I'm even in classes. The play class is easy for me to do the exercises for and things are going okay there (Cajun plays with ME at the park yaaaayyyy), but good gravy I'm not doing any of the exercises for get focused. Whoops. And I'm totally not checking the forums for either class.

Clearly, I need the structure of a set day/time that in person classes offer!

I'm in the front/finishes class and it's going well :) I don't check in daily, but I do regularly enough. That said, my actually practicing is going dismally, lol

OK, so I was gone for weeks and came back to check in on my Prey Drive class, and WTH, I can't make heads or tails out of the videos. What's this "break" business? And it all seems useless and like something I've been doing with Louis since the beginning (luring with food, which she is calling "chase", etc). Help!

I've been mostly keeping up, but I have to say I've had the same impression of the class. It's all stuff we've already done and while interesting at a fundamentals levels, it hadn't helped his prey drive really.

Exactly! I've been doing this stuff with Louis since I got him, but it hasn't helped him control his prey drive!

Seriously, what's the deal with the video starting week 2, where he is waiting for the dog to offer a behavior, then seemingly randomly saying "break" and stepping back to deliver a treat behind his leg? What is that about? What's with the "break" and what does it signify?

Yeah, I'm kind of bummed because this is my first Fenzi class and it's not a great impression. I've liked a few of the games and they weren't necessarily things I would have done/known about, but I don't really know where she's going with this. And the videos are pretty much useless to me. I've been just trying to base what I do off of the reading and what gold students are doing. To me in most of her videos she's doing something different than what the instructions say. It's unfortunate because she seems like a really nice person, but I've been staying caught up religiously and I still don't see where this is going. I chalked it up to my lack of experience, but it seems like others are feeling the same thing.

It's not typical for my Fenzi class experience at all. I've been pretty disappointed by this class.

So far the best classes I've taken have been the ones run by Denise, hands down. They have tons of information and videos, and her instruction is really good if you're a Gold student.

Shade's toy class was really good. The Focus class was ok, and I think they were still working out the bugs because some of the lectures have been clarified since I took it.

TE is going well, though it's pretty open ended. I don't see how anyone not in a Gold spot would get much out of it, because it's all about setting up training sessions and there's only one lecture a week. I mean, I kind of already knew that holding criteria or proofing were important, but it's getting the instruction that's helpful.

I can't do online classes at the bronze/auditing level either. Recallers was about the biggest waste of money I've ever spent, and not because of the content. I just didn't keep up.

I did great, and had a fabulous experience, with the Agility U class I took at their version of gold. Whether because I was forced to focus on it more to get the videos done, or the content was better tailored for me, or the instructor was so good - who knows. But I stuck with it easily and got so much out of it.

That's why I wound up not taking the Play class this time. I knew doing it at bronze was going to wind up being a waste for me.

I'm doing bronze for NW120 and AG120 this next session.

ETA: I've had great experiences with my classes. The AG110 is really really really good. The advanced nosework was also fantastic.

I'm interested in NW101 because I think I'm going to start Hank in nosework on my own versus a class and I heard that the Fenzi class is straight into odor from the get go. Which is the method I want to do with Hank.

Lauren it is straight into the odor. So far that's the only NW class I've taken. At some point I'd like to progress past 101... But I've got way too much else going on right now. Haha. I did enjoy the class though. :)

I'm not sure yet if I'm going to take anything. I kind of fell off the wagon with submitting videos to Training Excellence in the past couple weeks. On the other hand, I will be back home starting April 1st and will have a lot more time on my hands, plus access to my little outdoor jumping area which I didn't have for the last 10 months.

I really wanted to take the agility fundamentals class last term, but didn't have access to jumps. I think I'm going to sign up for AG120 and buy the lectures for AG110.

I also want to sign up for the foundation jumping class. Watson is much better after working through Susan Salo's program, but I think he could use more work. He has good form, but lacks confidence.

I really need to get off my butt and take some classes!

Why do I have to be so busy?

Also, when did they change things around so much. I see there is no school of IPO any longer which really bummed me out. I liked the IPO fundamentals 1 class I took last year with Shade, which isn't even offered anymore? :(

Shade is definitely still teaching classes. They are just mixed in with the others now, like IPO Obedience (SH340) is under Obedience now, and there is an IPO/High Drive Foundation skills class under Foundations.

They switch up which classes are offered, so I'm sure the IPO fundamentals class will come back.

AG110 was definitely well worth it. IMO
How much space did you need for it? It says 3 jumps, but is that 3 jumps kind of close together? Or super spread out?

I know Watson will never learn that kind of stuff in a class, so I want to try teaching it myself now that I have room.

Oh, yeah, I saw she was doing the OB classes, they just weren't something I was interested in... I saw each of those, but I was more interested in the protection fundamentals series, which weren't listed anywhere any longer.

eta; If I can't do protection classes with Shade, I will likely see if work will cover some BAT classes and do those for further learning. :p

Patton will never be an IPO dog at this rate. I'm pouting, because first world problems.
