Favorite Shampoo and Conditioner (human)

Get a good non stripping shampoo and give it a month or so to adjust and it will stop getting so greasy:)

That's all well and good. But sometimes when you have a job dealing with the public, you can't afford to look like you don't wash your hair. There is a marked difference in how people react and the perceived hygiene practices of who they're interacting with.

Luckily enough I found something that works nearly instantly for my hair. I only have to wash my hair every second or third day.

LOL, that's exactly what I was thinking! My hair looks greasy/nasty after one day without a shower, I can't imagine I wouldn't be talked to by my store manager about it after a couple days.

cheap Suave , the blue ones and I wash it 2x's a week or so.

I am looking into making my own shampoo/conditioner if anyone has any recipes?

I'm lucky that my hair never gets greasy. I could probably go 2 weeks without washing it (not that I would ever do that, but I bet I could).

Is it generally straight hair that gets greasy quickly, or can curly hair get greasy as well?

If I wash my hair more than once or twice a week it dries out. I use conditioner to wash with instead of shampoo every couple of days which keeps away the dryness.

Lol, I worked with the public when I did it, no issues;) Just did some braids, etc. You can also use dry shampoo, it works wonders and sucking up the excess grease.

Not saying anyone HAS to do this btw lol

This. I'm happy with the way my shampoos and conditioners make my hair look, feel and smell. I'm going to stick with them! :)

I have no idea but my hair is stick straight and crazy greasy after one day. Not only does it get greasy but it gets super itchy and just ew. My scalp never dries out though, even in the middle of Minnesota winter.

Stop trying to force your beliefs on us!!!

Is dry shampoo like a spray? Or a powder? I definitely wouldn't mind having an option other than showering for the days that I wake up late...

Dang, you guys, I love shampoos and conditioners. I could waste a lot of money that way. :D

I always do something sulfate free for my shampoo, and try to stay away from 'cones except for on my ends - it seems to protect them now that it's getting dry out. I've been using Burt's Bees shampoo and I like it fine, it's quite gentle. I go 3-4 days between washes with dry shampoo on day 3, always. My hair is straight, thick, and half way between my bra strap and the small of my back.

But honestly, I'm gonna try that SimplyU stuff people are raving about - even if I have to get it from Wally World. I'm really curious and the price is right!

It was more of a general rant to people who are militant about SLS and paraban free shampoos/conditioners freaking at me for preferring my chemical laden ones instead. The whole just wait it out thing doesn't exactly work in my line of work not to mention I tried for months and no improvement. Plus my hair isn't long enough for braids lol.

I think they have both....I have a spray one. I was worried about it showing up because my hair is really dark (and its a white powder spray) but it really doesnt once you rub it in a bit. My hair is wavy to curly so I cant really brush it through but it still disappears. I just started using it last month and am really happy with it

Back when I started it, Mandy, there weren't a lot of options and I did go through about a week or so when I wasn't all that happy with how my hair looked. Mine looks greasy, too, when it's not sparkling clean.

Some of the newer SLS/paraben free formulas don't seem to have that same wait time though. It may take one or two shampoo cycles for hair to completely detox, but brushing with a natural bristle brush really helps a lot. It distributes the natural oils throughout your hair, too, so it's actually good for your hair.

Think back on the old days when women used to brush their waist length hair for 100 strokes every night -- with a natural bristle brush. They didn't wash their hair anywhere near as often as we do, either!

But no, you don't HAVE to try it, lol. It's just an option ;)

From what I understand... curly hair is well, curly lol, so oil and everything else takes longer to get down the shaft and give the hair the greasy look. With straight hair, it goes straight down, which is why typically straight haired people get the "greasy" look MUCH faster.
On the other hand, curly haired people often have issues with dryness because, again, the oils have a hard time getting down the shaft.

Like Jessie, I have curly hair and could probably easy go a week without washing my hair. It wouldn't smell like flowers but it wouldn't be greasy gross either.

That said, I'm all about convenience. I really like Jason shampoos. You can get them at whole foods, CVS, Publix, etc.. and they aren't very expensive.

Plus.. yummy smell! They are also organic yadayadayada

Conditioner I still like my aussie and my 4 minute miracle stuff :)

Ohhh...if SLS free = greasy, I'm out. I'd rather have my hair fall out all over the place than look gross and greasy. I can't go a month with it being icky.

The whole thing is that SLS free doesn't strip your hair of it's natural oils and such.. so it's not as harsh.
You aren't going to get that squeaky clean feeling for a WHILE until your hair learns to stop over-producing oil (since it's so used to shampoo totally stripping it)

For me, switching to SLS free did nothing.. the shampoo is milder and doesn't foam up of course and my hair didn't feel squeaky clean after but I don't have greasy hair problems so it wasn't that huge of an issue.

I am kind of..eh whatever about my hair. As long as it looks good I'm fine with abusing it. There are more important things on my body for me to worry about then my dead skin cells lol
As long as it smells good and blow-dries straight then I'm all good

Plus there is no much my shampoo could do to counter-act the amount of blow-dryer/iron abuse I put my hair through. And since it grows about 2 inches an hour.. lol oh well.

See, and I'm the opposite--hair is my favorite part of my whole body. It's what everyone notices and compliments. I rarely if ever dry it, just whip a brush through it and run out the door and let it air dry (yay straight hair!) If I had to give that up...I'd be really sad.

Maybe I'll try it over the summer when I can hang out like a hermit for a week if I look like crap.

The Simply U does foam.

I've never had to wash my hair more than every other day for greasiness, but I don't notice a huge difference in greasiness with the SLS-free ones. I still "wash" with conditioner every other day, and wash with shampoo once a week. The only time I have to wash it more often than that is for external factors...elephant poo and stuff lol.

Its not a month of greasy grimy hair:) For me, it took about a month for me to be able to go 4-5 days without washing without it being greasy before a wash, but it was clean on wash days for sure! I just had to get my hair to stop overproducing oil from stripping. Washing daily or every other day with a SLS free shampoo is going to give great results and better hair health than ones with sulfates, its just "better" if you can go longer

Naw I have curly hair and it does a good job getting greasy! It's not as bad now that I'm not a teenager I guess lol, and I can go a day without washing my hair and it might not LOOK greasy, but I suspect the curls do a better job hiding that than if my hair were straight... but either way, it just starts to feel gross and itchy to me if it goes more than a day without being washed.

A while back I was interested in trying out some parts of the "curly girl" method so I went a week without shampoo, just doing conditioner washes every day... my hair was clean, that was fine, but it just looked weird and I couldn't get it styled right. So now I just stick with my daily shampooing lol.

I was interested in sulfate-free for a little bit too especially when I saw that Mixed Chicks now had that option in their shampoo... but I also use products with silicones so I want to make sure I'm using something that will remove those. But I am pretty sure sulfates are not killing my hair so meehhhh I'll deal.

I like Garnier Fructis for shampoo. I don't use conditioner as it dries my hair out and can make it really oily. So I wash my hair good twice with shampoo. No matter how high the quality conditioner it just doesn't work with my hair. :/
