Ever own a breed of dog you didn't like?

I do!

Before Takoda and Outlaw I HATED Labs, hated them! Everything about them from the hair to the OMG PERSON LOVE ME!!!!!!!!! thing they do. I thought they were dumb and just blah! Guess working in grooming made me jaded towards them.

Then along came Outlaw, Takoda played a major part in me giving him and his breed a shot. I wanted a bigger dog, a more high energy and playful dog that could keep up with Takoda which is why I didn't get another Beagle like I wanted. I figured why not gives Labs a try and needless to say everything I ever thought about Labs is wrong and I can honestly say they are the PERFECT breed for me. I love having a dog that is friendly with people unlike Takoda and her FA issues. I love his what can I do for you attitude, I love having a dog that plays and how sweet he is. I love their energy level as well!

He's smart and sweet and oh so playful and LOVES LOVES my nephews and Takoda and he cuddly like Beau never was.

Labs are my breed and to think I didn't even like them!

Kind of, sort of, not really? I don't know haha.

I love Dobermans, I really do. I think they're the sweetest, kindest, most beautiful dogs. But I don't always enjoy living with them. And it's unlikely I'll seek another out unless I can find a breeder with individual dogs more suited to me than Keira and Ripley are. But I can't honestly say that I don't like the breed, because there are loads of things to love about them. I just wish I as a person were better suited to the breed. I have a love/'hate' relationship with them I guess. Hard to explain.

Other than Dobes, no. I've lived with breeds I wouldn't seek out, but I didn't choose them (although I really didn't have much say in choosing Dobes either), so I'm not including them.

Of the only two breeds I did seek out, I really enjoy both. I wish I'd gotten a normal, nicer tempered Toller, but I do love the breed. And I can't complain about even one single thing about my Aussie.

Yes, I suppose. I don't like poodles or bichons and that's what Lucy's a mix of. She was bought impulsively though and I didn't actually seek that kind of dog out.

I now have a dog who is my jogging partner and who stares like this everyday when I get ready in the bathroom

C'est la vie! haha I thought I wouldn't love aussies.. the ones I'd met were hyper, anxious, even bitey!!

Turns out, I just hadn't met the right ones

Nope, not really. I mean, I never would have really picked out a Cardi OR a Mal, I just happened upon both, but I didn't dislike either breed at all. I love Cardis and think they're hilarious, though. And you'll never see me without a Malinois again unless I'm too old or broken to hang onto one. Can't imagine life without one.

Well, for a year Gracie and Cooper were in our care, and they are a dachshund and a Yorkie, respectively. I never would have sought out either breeds and to this day they aren't my favorite breeds. But they are good little dogs, although they never werd quite right for Mike and I. They definitely could have been a *much* worse fit. And they are both super pleased with their new homes with my mom and grandma.

I loved all of my childhood dogs. They were retriever/shepherd type mixes. And a Malamute. Currently have a retriever mix and a retriever, so I'm pretty happy. ^^

Ummm... I mean, not particularly.

Grew up with Golden and GSD. I could definitely still live with each other those breeds in the future, individual dog dependent. Might not seek them out anytime soon, but yeah.

My moms cockapoo (that kind of turned into mine), I actually really loved her. She was a great little dog and honestly? So is EVERY one I meet. If I found the right one in rescue, I can't say I wouldn't want another.

I love Jackson so much, he is THE perfect dog for me, but I probably wouldn't seek out another Yorkie. Mainly because 95% of them I meet AREN'T like him, lol. Unless again I found the perfect one in rescue or rehome or something.

But none are breeds that I actively don't like.

Was not a fan of Bostons, as a kid had neighbors, that had a mean one terrified us. Love my Gunner but won't have another.

I was never a fan of little dogs, but a small JRT mix found my mom one day and I love him to death. They named him Sergeant Stubby after the hero pit bull, and it fits him well. But I don't think there's a single breed that I really don't like, just there are some breeds that appeal to me more.

I don't really care for GSDs, but my parents have always had them. I like herders, just...not GSDs.

I also don't really care for chihuahuas, but I fostered two and those two were pretty darn cool. Just not the sort of dog I'd want to live with for 15 years (which is why although I love Tango to bits, I was happy to send him to his new home. He was driving me nuts lol).

My roommate a couple years ago had dachshunds. I hated doxies, but HERS were awesome despite being from a BYB. Gavroche is secretly a doxie in a clever boxer disguise lol. I'd consider having a doxie if I ever wanted a small dog again.

I thought I liked pugs once upon a time, but I really don't. There are a few specific individuals I like, but as a whole...no thanks.

I go back and forth on goldens. My aunt had one that I just adored. My former roommate (same person as earlier) as a golden, and I LOVEEEE to go visit her and play with him. He just gets SO into it. But when I dogsat him for a week, it was the longest week ever. Part of it was to do with him not really getting along well with my dogs (he does outside of my house, but not inside my house). But he's also SO CLINGY. I want a dog that's super clingy when I want it, but is willing to give me space, too. This dog was like NO, I WANT TO BE ON YOU FOREVER PLEASE DON'T LEAVE ME. But I still love him. I think if I ended up with a golden I'd be okay (such as if I were to get a program dog as my next SD), but I wouldn't seek one out.

Interestingly, I have yet to meet a boxer or a collie I didn't like. They're definitely MY breeds. I just wish boxers were a healthier breed. It's unlikely I'll have another boxer after Gavroche unless I find some very, VERY healthy lines with a robust health guarantee behind it.

Yes, definitely. I was always a fan of the traditional (gamebred) APBT and for years viewed the "pitterstaffs" and "pet bulls" with derision and scorn. I started out enamored of the working potential of the pit bull and had grandiose dreams of bitesports and weight pull and Superdogs. HA. yeah, feel free to laugh at me XD After years of clinging to my working dogs, I got a blue tri Am Bully (why? no idea!) and the rest is history. Ill NEVER own anything else. Even my vague plans of having an English Shepherd or a Standard Poodle are just that, vague. I dont think I could ever have something that doesnt have the bullyderp personality. They fit me soooo perfectly

There was once upon a time where I didn't like toy dogs. I'd never have guessed myself to have had this many toy dogs, but I really enjoy them. To me there is something so charming about such a tiny animal that gives you its all. I never hated toy dogs though and honestly knew nothing about papillons prior to my mom getting Beau.

Yep. I had a Sheltie that I loved deeply, but I didn't like his breed very much. No idea why I begged for him to be picked out - I guess I was just young and had met a lot of Shelties (they were the most popular dog in our area for awhile).

I just can't deal with that much barking. I also want a dog that's more naturally confident, less prone to being shy. Did I mention the barking?! And the hair...If I'm being brutally honest, I don't even appreciate Shelties on an aesthetic level. I made an exception for my dog because he was my dog, and I always thought HE was cute (especially his face - I actually love how soft and plucky Sheltie expressions are), but I'll never get another.

Then again, I always said I couldn't deal with a dog who wheezed or drooled, and Astro only pauses his groaning and snorting to slobber all over everything. And I love him and even find those treats endearing now More endearing than I ever found the Sheltie barking and shyness, honestly.

As a kid we we had a miniature poodle mix (what else was in there was never known). Not really my kind of dog but we sort of inherited her when we moved to a new house...the previous owners couldn't take her with them and we didn't have a dog at the time so the family kept her.

She was a really sweet, good little dog, just not my kind of dog.


We also fostered a Sibe for about two years when I was a kid. She was also a good dog and we had a lot of fun "skijoring" on rollerblades but she couldn't really be let off leash which made things difficult with my family's setup. Just not my kind of dog, at least not as the only dog. I like skijoring dogs who also want to fetch and work with me and just hang out in my company

In both cases they were good dogs and I enjoyed them but they weren't good fits.

I never really liked "pit bull" type breeds. Nothing about them really appealed to me, aside from their high energy level and strength, but then, for what purpose would I ever need such a dog? All of the pitty type dogs I had met seemed either super goofy, with grunty, snorty whines and furious egg-beater tails, or they seemed really intense and tightly wound. Being someone who goes around to a lot of dog stuff, I also never really observed them in the obedience, or agility events. Sometimes you'd see the odd dog and more often then not, it would do fairly well. But these were few and far between, certainly not as common as the BC's and the Goldens at these kind of events.

Fate threw me a curve-ball when my s/o unexpectedly brought home a young APBT mix puppy. She's now 14 weeks old. I know it's a bit early, but I can already tell...if the rest of them are anything like her, I will ALWAYS have one of these amazing dogs in my life. She is absolutely perfect. I enjoy working with dogs at a rapid pace. I'm high energy and I love working with dogs who are similar in personality. I'll be honest, I did doubt she would be easy to train. But she's not at all!! She's just different. It's been a long time since I had a wee puppy of my own, but I would say she has been the easiest pup I have ever had! Now if you were to ask my s/o, he would tell you she's a nut with selective hearing and too much spunk. Would you believe me if I said, she's a little angel who listens to me better then any puppy has, knows more tricks then my almost 10 year old dog, is always up for a walk or a training session and loves to lay in my arms when I watch TV?

I could seriously write a novel about how awesome my puppy is. She puts 100% into every thing she does.

I didn't love PyrSheps when I first started seeing them around and ended up at their National. I'm totally smitten with them now though LOL

Corgis were not on my list of dogs I would like to have either, mostly because I wasn't crazy about the look of dwarf breeds.

And Belgians were an accident. Not that I didn't like them, I just was never really around them prior to co-owning one to show when I was a teen.
