I like feeding mine several smaller meals a day until they learn to graze. Not only does it teach them to graze, it gives you the perfect opportunity to control his bathroom habits and make it easier to housetrain him.

I don't think there is one good answer though; you always have to take into account that each dog is an individual and adjust things accordingly. Two of my dogs are grazers (well Bimmer is and Kharma's learning to be), but Shiva has a scorched earth policy when it comes to food, lol.

Yeah, I think Renee is right.

My dogs have food out almost all the time but they only get fed once a day. They are just too busy to eat it all at once. :) When Maverick was a pup he could eat all he wanted and he was never that focused on food. The water dish was much more fun!

But, as Renee, mentioned feeing regularly is a good way to monitor when to poop comes out! LOL A minimum of twice a day. I think that most books I've read on house breaking recommend three times. What works for you?

I don't like to leave food out for them all day. It can make for a picky eater and also there's no routine so it's harder to house break them. However, a young pup needs to eat 3 to 4 times a day. But put it down and after 15 minutes or so, put it away until next time. Water should be available always.
