I have a couple stories on Dylan's swimming ability. One I might have mentioned before, but what the hell. We all like talking about our dogs anyway. The first story is about the first time I went swimming by my landlord's house. Ron, my landlord, had a man made lake on his property. It was a hot summer day so I decided to go swimming by his house. Dylan was six years old at the time and by the look on his face, one could tell he could not figure what I was doing in the water. For some time, Dylan stuck close by me as I swam before he got use to me being in the water and left me alone. A few days later, Ron decided to go swimming. While Dylan was on shore, Ron ran about fifteen feet and dove in the water. This startled Dylan because evidently, he thought Ron was in trouble because Dylan jumped into the water and swam about fifty feet to where Ron was swimming in the water in order to save him. When Dylan reached him, Ron grabbed his collar and Dylan swam, with Ron in tow to the safety of the shore. This all made sense a few days earlier when Dylan was wondering what I was doing in the water. Since he was not use to me swimming, Dylan thought that I might be in Danger. That's why Dylan stayed so close to me.
The other time when Dylan showed his swimming ability was when Dylan and I were at a friend's cottage. When Dylan was by Ron's place, he was so use to it there,he would sometimes wonder off without me. But at my friend's cottage, he was not use to being there so he always stuck close by me. One day we decided to try a little experiment. My friend held Dylan by the collar while I took the paddle boat and paddled over forty yards into the lake. While paddling out to the middle of the lake, Dylan was going nuts while he was being held. I stopped the paddle boat and my friend let Dylan go. Dylan jumped into the water and swam over forty yards non stop until he reached me. When I lifted Dylan into the boat, he was not even breathing hard. But he got even with me for making him swim all that distance. When Dylan was in the paddle boat, he shook himself dry all over me which caused me to scream because of the cold water. I got a video tape of this and when I transfer it to the computer, I'll share it with everybody.
