well me and my bf took his 2 dogs to the dog park he recently found. It's small, but nice. It was the first time his two dogs have ever been to a dog park so we kept them on a leash for just a little while until we where comfortable with them being off leash. Both dogs did really well, even coming when called. (whooo!)

BUT there was this one HUGE (huge as in tall/stocky and very overweight) yellow lab that kept trying to hump his smaller dog (chi/boston). This dog was WAY too pushy about it and she was telling him to back off a few times and he did not listen at all! Plus the fact he was way larger than she is my bf picked up his dog to keep her from being squashed (which from the way things where going nothing was going to stop that lab!).

The owners immediately yell "no don't pick up your dog!." Of course its too late by then and the lab jumps up and wraps itself (full 150 lbs of it) around my bf's leg!! :yikes: The owners walk over (yes walk) saying that's why they told him not to pick up his dog because he's done that before. The dog left BIG gashes in my bf's leg! It was not a small thing.

I got mad and told them they shouldn't take their dog here anymore if it's going to behave like that or at least keep it closer. It was bullying the other dogs and just being pushy/rude, but the clinging is way too unacceptable, IMHO.

They just said they go there all the time and it only has happened a few times and leashed both their dogs and left. idiots.

How mad do you think you would be if that happened to you?

{{{{{And yes, you are not suppose to pick up your dog, but when your dog is about to get seriously injured because of a dog 5 times it's size, and there was no way to keep the other dog back away (I was trying my best but the **** thing weighs more than me!) I don't care if you loved your dog you would pick it up.}}}}}

i wouldn't pick up my dogs because in my experience that creates more issues than it solves... merlin, for instance, decides he's safe in mommy's arms and starts growling and yapping. Inevitably, the other dog, seeing his prey escaping, launches into full-out attack mode and now I'm being mauled. Best thing you can do is leave.

I also do not appreciate or tolerate dog humpers. It's just rude.

A lot of dog park-goers bring dogs like that, and dogs with worse problems to the dog park simply because they are stupid, and they do not listen to other peoples' advice when they tell them not to bring their dog.

Stupid people. I am sorry you both had to endure that.

Also, just out of curiousity, which park?

I'm sorry... that really sucks...

We have a local dog park... I prefer to bring my dogs to the statelands... no one uses them so it's just me and my two... well, just me and keeda-puff have been going lately. :(

I hate when people don't respect other people, which is why I try to stay away from areas with packs of dogs. There is a field in Sag Harbour that the local "dog walk" place. but the people who go there are all dog lovers, and they respect each other... so once in a while I go out there...

I don't take my dog to dog parks for that very reason. We had a similar incident 3 years ago, but then my Mojo was getting gained up on by a JRT and 2 huskies. None of the owners cared enough about what was going on to do jack **** about their dogs bad behavior. So I did what you did and picked up my dog (all 45lbs of him) and walked out of the park. We haven't been back since.

Now, I'd rather take him hiking than deal with other people's rude dogs.

I'm sorry that happened to you.

I should be able to pick my dogs up without having to deal with someone else's dog jumping on me. That is just rude of the owner to allow that. And to tell you NOT to pick your dog up? It is YOUR dog, and if you wanted to pick it up to protect it from a big dog trying to hump it, there is no problem with that.

I go to the dog park all the time, and I avoid dogs I know will cause trouble. For example. There is man with two labs. His black lab has start MULTIPLE fights with other large dogs it was playing with..and the owner has had the nerve to blame ALL the other dogs, saying it was their fault, and that they are aggressive. He is in extreme denial. I leave when he comes. And i PICK my dogs up to make sure they don't have the possibility of getting injured by his aggressive dogs.

There will always be dogs that shouldn't be at the dog park. I just keep my eye out. I always bring Harry, Cartman, and Bjorn. Cartman stays by me the entire time unless I throw a ball for him, and Bjorn always stays near me when we go, so I do laps around the park, and let them meet new dogs, but I don't have to worry about them wandering off. Harry plays fetch the entire time, and sometimes wanders over to other groups of people...but he is very unconfrontational, if a dog is trying to dominate him he walks off, and back to me..so I don't worry about it.

The main thing, ALWAYS watch your dogs. I don't go to the dog park to socialize with people and ignore my dogs (Which I find a LOT of people do when they are there, they don't pay any attention to their dogs)..I go for my dogs to get exercise and socialization. So my eyes are always on them.
