Summer is always the girl and Mia is the boy. Weird because Mia has much finer features. I think it's because she's darker? I dunno. I would think small and fluffy would = girl?

I think Watson gets about 50/50. Fluffy cute dog generally = female, though I always have blue collar/leash/harness.

I think his head looks quite masculine compared to females of his breed. His body is a little more elegant, and he is still in the puppy skinny phase a bit, so that might throw people off.

Fred is UNMISTAKINGLY a boy. No worries there!!! There is meant to be quite a difference in male/female gsp. Boys are masculine, girls are feminine.

Bodhi is ALWAYS called a boy. No amount of pink collars seem to shake that!!!

Jubel is probably 50/50 on people guessing he's a boy, knowing his name seems to make it worse for many haha. Some think I said Jewel and others decided Jubel is a girls name. *shrug* He couldn't care less if they think he's a girl as long as they love on him.

I don't think people really guess what Crossbone is....they just get all googly eyed and want to touch him. And I'm like..."um, hey, please don't touch him, he's not really fond of old, fat ladies hovering over him" and then I'M the bad guy and they walk away before asking any more questions. Or they start reaching for him and I say as I gently lead him away from their grasp, "Yeah, his name is Crossbone" and they look up at me, mid reach, speechless and kind of amble away.

I think Sally has a pretty feminine look for the generic "pit bull types" I typically see around here. She gets a mixed bag when it comes to the general public guessing her gender, especially since her collar is a plain leather collar, her haltie is black, and her harness is light blue. I have actually had a guy (while looking right at her) ask to breed her to his female pit bull/boxer mix

Jack is also about 50/50. He looks like a boy to me (and totally acts like one), but he's not a big lab-about 65 lbs, and most labs around here are huge, so small equals female to many people.

Even though he's only 10 lbs heavier than her, his head is much bigger...

Duke always gets called a girl. He was neutered really young (4.5months) so he didn't get the chance to fully mature. He's very fine boned, and has poor muscle tone. He's fit, but he'll never have the "bulk" he could of had if he had his nuts a little longer.

Plus he's always beside the behemoth Boomer, who is 50lbs heavier than he is. He's dwarfed by contrast.

While I think Cohen looks very feminine, most people, dog folks and non-dog folks alike, think she's male. The name certainly doesn't help.

Megatron (despite the name) is fairly easily identified as female. She definitely has very feminine features.

Harleigh always gets mistaken for a boy. Of course, part of that could be her name too She does have a HUGE head (lol), so that could be another reason.

She looks like a girl to me, but that could also be because I own her

But yeah, Har is forever a boy. Even a bikini doesn't stop the boy comments

I also think that some people assume all dogs are a certain gender. My husband calls EVERY dog a boy, even if he knows the dog is a girl because he's only ever had boy dogs.

My brother does this with a lot of our foster dogs. He'll call them all "he" 90% of the time, we've only had one male foster so far. Finally got him calling the most recent foster a "she" and then he started calling Jubel a she as well... Can't win with him haha.

Depends on who you ask. People with Pitorstaffs (UKC APBT with a lot of Amstaff blood) or American Bullies think Spike is a bitchy "reindeer." APBT people think he looks like, well, a he.

I think he looks all male, sporting a pink leash even.

I don't think anyone has mistook Abrams for a female. Ever. Except for maybe when he was 8 weeks old, and even then it was a question of, "Oh, is it a boy or a girl?" Not, "Oh, what a pretty girl puppy!"



Chloe was more often than not called a "she". I think I had one person ask me if she was a male, and then when said no, they said, "Oh, I thought so. She looks like a girl." (This photo is before I started shaving her, and also before my mom made her fat.)


Cynder has been questioned before, but I personally think she looks female.

Blackrose- I hope you don't take offense to this because your boy is a fine looking chessie, but seeing the above pic makes me understand how people think Jack is a chessie all the time (I seriously had 3 people think he was a chessie in one trip to PETsMART). They have a similar build and coat.

Nope, I don't take offense at all! In that picture he does look kind of Lab-ish. In other pictures, you can definitely tell he is NOT a Lab. Like, this picture:

John Q Public seems to think Abrams is either a Chocolate Lab, a Labradoodle, or a Curly Coated Retriever. (I mean, HOW do they know what a Curly Coat is and NOT know what a Chessie is?!) I've only every had a handful of people guess Chessie. Everyone else says Lab or Labradoodle.

Em is very feminine, imo. Muscular, but fine boned and elegant. Most people think she's a <1 year old boy. Maybe service dogs just can't be girls?

Bloo is a funky looking gremlin, but a feminine looking funky gremlin. Most people think she's female.

I laugh and say the only place that people know Abrams is a Chessie is Tractor Supply. People there say, "Oh, look at that gorgeous Chessie. I had one of those. Best dog ever." People at Petsmart say, "Oh, my son has a Lab just like this one! Only bigger!"
