Does your dog like strangers?

Outside. Not interested. Don't even bother, they will ignore you. Unless you throw a ball for bodhi, then she will hound you to death.

People coming to the house. Prepare to be barked at... They bark. It's loud. They're usually a bit suspicious at first unless they know who it is. But once inside they will investigate and then make friends. Then you will have a dog on your knee if that's what you'd like! They're a bit wary of workmen. I don't discourage this, if I'm home alone I want them to be wary. They're not remotely aggressive/guarding though. Just suspicious!

Morrison-

Unannounced- He's a bit suspicious and will raise his hackles at people who walk past our house or down our shared driveway that he does not know. We recently had new neighbors moved in and every time they caught Morrison off guard he would "Roooooooo" and do his best tough guy impression. I then made the effort to introduce him to said new neighbors and they approached he was all tail wags and paw shakes.

Announced- He's very good about people who are announced and I am okay with..He usually all tail wags and "Hi new friend...I love you know friend...can I sit in your lap and smell your breath new friend?". He pretty much loves anyone I am comfortable with. After some greeting and if no one wants to cuddle he slinks of to his bed and goes to sleep.

Fae-

Unannounced- She is not a fan. If she is outside and someone walks by or down our shared driveway she freaks out. She barks is shocked little dog fashion and ZOOOOOMS up the back porch steps begging for the safety of the house. I imagine her inner thoughts are "STRANGER DANGER!!! STRANGER DANGER!!!" lol.

Announced- is slightly better. It depends on her day. She barks a bit but stops with correction. Brand new guests often bring out the "nervous sh!ts" which happened more when she was younger. She likes to stay in her own space until she feels comfortable and usually after 15-20 minutes comes out and starts licking hands and begging guests for attention.

Leia-

Unannounced- She is pretty good about it actually. She isn't very yappy and definitely isn't afraid. The only time she gets scared is if someone sneaks up on her....Like she has to be totally oblivious. If that happens she has a high pitched panicked bark she will do at first. But literally within seconds she is back to "Hi! hi! hi! Wanna pet me? I'm CUTE!" mentality.

Announced- She has zero problems with announced guests in our out of the house. She is my social butterfly. She loves to meet kids and adults and loves the attention she gets for being so tiny and cute. She totally milks it .

 

[Kootenay]

Jasper pretty much loves everyone, and will let anyone into the house at any time, often without even barking.

Yarrow is terrified of anyone he doesn't know. He keeps his distance and circles around behind them far away if we're out and he's off leash, and he runs and hides whenever people arrive at our house.

Onyx is pretty much neutral to people when we're out of the house, she completely ignores them. If they have a toy she'll happily play with anyone but she doesn't really show affection.

In the house, she barks as people arrive (we have big windows so she can watch people drive up and walk up to the house), if it's someone she knows she stops barking once they come through the door. I never chance it if it's someone she doesn't know, she is put on her mat or else crated (or I play with her or something) as they walk in the door, and then she's allowed to go say hi after the initial arrival excitement has died down. I don't think she'd actually bite someone who just walked in (who she didn't know), but she'd probably sound pretty scary. She's always crated when I leave her, for various reasons, but around here people stop by and our house is always unlocked so that is one reason, I wouldn't want anything to happen.

I know for a fact that she won't let people she doesn't know really well into the car when we're not in it. I'm just fine with this!

Zander - Depends on the person. Some people he will run and hide from, some people he walks up and demands attention as if it is all about him. Others he doesn't give a second glance to.

Quinn - Generally, she loves people. But right now she is going through a bit of a "everything has the possibility to kill you" phase. So commence barking at all of the things, including all of the people. She warms up well enough, though, and settles down really well. But initially she is quite convinced that all people are Puppy-Eating-Monsters. Bark, bark, bark.

Dekka (she really is my ideal dog)

Out and about is very polite. If someone stops to talk to her she politely wags her tail and accepts petting from adults and children alike. She doesn't jump up or try to pull towards them and neither does she try to avoid them. Hats, canes, wheel chairs - she doesn't care. She has met two people she hasn't liked in her life, and as she has met loads of people that is pretty impressive.

At home when someone new comes over she barks and looks back at me to make sure I notice someone coming in. Then she sniffs them. (Come to think of this she does this when anyone comes home that isn't me, for me she throws herself at me and screams) A stranger would get a few barks but they could steal what ever and she wouldn't stop them.

Schen loves people in general. Out and about he seems a bit suspicious of walking people but that could be because most of our walking is done in the dark in the am or dark in the pm. If you come in our home he will shower you with love.

Max does not like strangers that is why I always put a sign outside my house to beware strangers from going inside my yard.

It's hit-and-miss with Pip out and about. Some people she warms right up to and others she is indifferent about. Every once and a while she will bark at someone but I've only seen this once or twice.

In the house she will bark until we greet the person or otherwise acknowledge they are there. After that, she is fine…just goes about her business.

Corvus does not like strangers. He would be 1000% content with life if I were the only human he ever had to see. But..to be fair, he hates a lot of things. He is possibly the grumpiest dog on the planet.

Ditto pretty much loves ALL TEH PEEPLES, once she's sure they're not trying to take her stuffed animals away. After she's sure of that, she'll be anyone's bestie, especially if they try to play tug with her.

They are polar opposites in so many ways, but they are amazing together. <3

We don't really have strange kids over, but the rare occasions when my niece and nephew have visited (both were around 2 at the time) Ru decided they were great fun because he could jump up and lick them in the face. I imagine any other visiting people under 3' tall would get the same response.

All the current dogs are friendly, except the one brain damaged (seriously, she had oxygen depletion as a puppy) but she isnt right in the head anyway. Josefina is friendly everywhere, she will bark when someone drives up but as soon as I come out she is friendly, but she isnt a ***** about it, she is very gentle and polite about approaching people, and never does unless they talk to her first, I didnt teach her this, she is just like that, also, she has a knack for sensing the person with the most need for comfort and affection ... its what makes her a good ESA I guess.

When he was younger, I trained Cobain to not show interest in strangers at all (made it easier to go to events and just for general walking). So as an adult, his general disinterest in people apparently comes off to others as "shyness" and being "timid"
He's not bad with strangers, but he just isn't interested until they give him a reason to be.

Rigby's not good with strangers. I can do whatever the heck I want to her without consequence, but if a stranger so much as tries to pet her she usually shies away. It has been getting better over the past few years, but I'm not sure it will ever be perfect.

Oz and Ruby are both pretty ok with strangers. With strangers come into the house Oz goes into "cute" mode and brings them toys so they will play with him.

Abby and Zane do not like knew people. The only strangers they are comforable around are the people at the vets.

Dep and Zane don't even know the meaning of the word "stranger". Everyone on earth is here to worship them.

LOL I spoke too soon, we are visiting OH here at his job in dallas and she saw him coming down the road on a bike and she ran at him, all puffed out, barking LOL I tried not to laugh but I didnt succeed cause it was super cute.

Charlotte ADORES people, weather she knows them or not. If she could have a hobby, it would be people.

Ma'ii is cool with people to, though he's not as crazy OMFG PET ME NAOW about them as Charlotte is. He'll greet people calmly, with a wagging tail, sniff them over, and that's about it (unless they have food). He isn't touchy feely about new people and will quickly move away.

Macleod is great with people coming in unannounced, a bark or two in excitement, but generally well mannered and makes friends with any visitors. He's also great with strangers well, everywhere, but as a service dog he has to tone it down because not everyone wants a dog nose up their butt.

Bindi is pretty much on Macleod's level with friendliness but she hasn't learned to tone it down yet. She's obnoxiously in your face friendly.

Willow is neutral with strangers in public but will protect the home if someone comes in unannounced. She's going through a very defensive stage, possibly permanent, but her sire apparently went through a similar thing at her age and grew out of it and became more social as he hit adulthood. Willow nailed my step dad in the stomach for coming in unannounced one night so I crate her when people are expected to come over now and my step dad knocks first She's social for a mal but she's going through some doggie boot camp right now for making her own decisions on what's a threat and what's not. Cracking down on this before it becomes a problem.
