Guess those are only half-ass mean :D
Renee, I think this is definitive proof that the study is flawed. Clearly it needs to be repeated with three lengths of tail to get a proper sample.

Oh, and my mom says that instead of real dogs, all robotic ones should have been used... *snicker*

That 'study', article is a joke at best. In the case of Jrts, the most aggressive Jrts that I have known, many of them had tails............b/c they came from poor breeding and poor raising as the product of BYB's and owners that for the most part didn't have a clue.

One of the main reasons that Jrts have docked tails is when in the ground, in a tight earth, when backing up, a undocked tail can break.
I have been present for many many litters being docked, SOMETIMES a pup will make a sound, many of them don't. For a Jrts tail to be correctly docked, only 1/3 of the tail is removed, 2/3's left.
Charlie; Jrts shouldn't have a curled tail even if left undocked, if the tail is curled over the back (even docked) it is called a 'gay tail' and is considered to be a conformational fault.

**In a rousing game of "Pin the Tail on the Corgi", corgipower attempts to determine if having a tail will make Ares less crabby towards robots.

She really is abnormal then in that case. Most APBT dont show pain. They are bulldozers/
SHe's hard like one, that dog is one solid little muscle, but her personality is that of a baby girl..all tender with her feelings. She is so much a little girl her gramma said she needs a bonnet.

Victor can run a branch through his skin near his paw and have it come out several inches higher up and never stop running. He doens't buck brush like he use to thank goodness...seems to be pretty good at finding his way at a breakneck speed through the trees.

True but many do. Even some 'well bred' conf winning types ones have curved tails. So it could have come from the JRT side (not likely was Ozz's JRT parent a stellar conf example of the breed)

I've seen many natural Aussies with a "gay" tail though, so it could have easily come from that side.

Dekka, yeah I know and in the conformation ring of the Jrt world, its called a 'gay tail' and its considered to be a fault. I would expect that if anyone leading the dog with a gay tail wasn't well known, the dog would get the gate. But b/c there is so much judging up the leash, those dogs with 'gay tails' can and do get used.

Also, though, it seems whenever breeding goes downhill at all tailset and earset seem to be the first things to go. Poorly bred purebreds often have the wrong tail for their breed. Nikki is a prime example.

I wont go on..... but, DryCreek, I love you... this is so amusing... I just... ohhhh it's beyond words it's so funny. *click* *cookie*
Thanks for the cookie!

>>>>DryCreek sits and takes the cookie nicely while her natural tail thumps loudly on the floor<<<<<

Cookies are always appreciated even though I'm more of a cracker girl LOL!

I was being serious about being severely near sighted though....

I have encountered enough problems with the APBT's chronic "Happy Tail Syndrome" to almost wish they were a docked breed ;)

I finally think i put this where i could understand. I thought what part of anyone's point of view changes mine? And i thought none so far. Then i thought i wonder what part of us a dog would want docked or trimmed? And that is it right there. We ask dogs to accept us as we are, pretty or ugly, disabled, or ill, they accept us EXACTLY as we are, they love us for who we are not what we look like. It would only be right and just if we could do the same for them. EVerything i have learned that is important to me, trust. faith, love, acceptance, forgiveness, i learned best not from my human race but from the dogs that stood by my side, without a spoken word they taught me to be the very person i am. I could no more harm them then i could a baby in my arms. Do we look at our children and think the ears should be tucked back, a nose job, maybe breasts implants or reduction if they grow they way we think they should not be? Or do we teach them to love the tree as it is, as God gave it to them. WE criticize people for lack of self esteem because of the way we look. WE criticize the media for setting up an almost impossible criteria for our young women and men to fit in to. We can't be happy with a dang thing for what it is. WE know it isn't right, and it sets people up for much unhappiness. Maybe we need to learn more from our dogs. THey ask us for no harm and in return they give us joy. Breeders should be breeding for health and disease resistance as their primary goal, not the package. I told Mary when we came out of the park she had darn good genes. SHe has never had allergies, or coat problems, she has never had genetic linked illnesses, she has lived far beyond my hopes but not my prayers. No harm was even put on her, not even for a second did i make this dog uncomfortable. Never for a second has she made me uncomfortable. THat is the way it should be...IMO I am done i promise.

good thoughtful post Smkie. I agree on many levels, but not on all. As an occasional breeder of dogs, I am invested in dogs with certain characteristics. But I know I would love ANY dog that came to live at my house, even if it wasn't my ideal dog.

If those standards were not made obligatory would you still have them in practice?
