Wilson will do this soft 'boof' when he's concerned and he barks if people are at the door, but I'd be surprised if he actually backed it up he's a big baby lol. He's more of a visual deterrent though so if I'm outside at night I usually take him just so people are less likely to approach us.

Sam almost never barks unless there's something really, really weird going on so I trust his instinct. And for being so little I don't doubt that he would try to defend me to the best of his abilities. Not that I'd let him, it's not exactly hard to fight off and seriously hurt a little 18 pound dog.

I do feel more secure when the dogs are around and I'm alone.
Though at times, nonsense barking can set me on edge a bit if I'm being super paranoid.

Rigby has a weird bark normally (and can barely growl at all), but when she means business it's a deep scary sounding woof. That bark sounds like it belongs to a much larger dog. And if I am present, she wont back down to a threat, not sure what she would do in the event that I wasn't there.

Cobain would bark, and usually he refrains from nonsense barking, so when he sounds off I trust there's something amiss.

Well, Lincoln is a cute fluffy dog, but say if he were in the truck and someone tried to steal it, he would throw such a fit and would draw so much attention, that he would probably deter them.

same at home, NOTHING out of the ordinary gets past him without him letting me know about it LOL.

Josefina? well I'll just say that we love Josefina very much LOL

Public opinion, and a easier train ability is the biggest factor in the change.

Source is easy, you have google research, what breed is the most decorated dog ever for the armed services.
Sorry because of public opinion and perception, bully breeds where phased out, in favor of easier to train german shepherd and belgian malinois.
Science minds are disappointed but not surprised you tell me to Google it myself.

Another breed being "most decorated" is not a comparison between the two.

So no source to prove one breed is better than another. Thanks, just checking.

Oh and I'm not a bully breed owner.
If you make a claim, the burden of proof is on you, not telling the other person "just look it up."

Proper APBTs should not show any aggression toward people. I can't speak to other bully types. There are basically no police forces using bully breeds that I'm aware of, they're all shepherds, German and Belgian primarily. Pretty sure PPD people, police and military don't care about public perception either so not sure where that argument comes in. They're not going to use a less effective dog because of public perception of the breed.

FYI Stubby being the most decorated war dog does not mean that bully breeds were ever the most popular military working dogs.

GSDs and Malinois are used because they're the best dogs for the job.

Oh and for the record I did Google it and didn't find anything supporting your claim (what a surprise.)

YES.

BCs are useless but my Mal...well, he's my Mal and I feel 110% safe with him.
HA ... our rescued female is the useless one. She is the most horrible at everything and cant take any mental pressure, if you pressure her, she shuts down and wont work or do anything.

Lincoln on the other hand recovers very well from mental pressure (which I work with him on a lot)

I doubt any of my dogs have any follow through, but I feel safe with Journey and Ripley. Ripley is obviously a good visual deterrent but he also has zero tolerance for anything weird and he doesn't alert bark for no reason. So if he's agitated about something, it's probably worthy of checking out. Journey isn't much if a visual deterrent, but she sounds scary when warranted and for as much of a people dog as she is, she watches weird people intently and doesn't silently let people in the house anymore either.

The Tollers, no haha. Both of them bark at stupid things and I never trust their judgement. Just today, Fen barked at her own reflection. Not to mention that they're also too small and cute to be a visual deterrent. Although their voices might be enough to scare anyone away just because they're so obnoxiously ear piercing lol.

Yes Crystal does provide protection. We've had multiple mailmen refuse to get near our house because of her haha. Even though she's only 40 pounds she does a good job of looking and sounding big. I'm sure if someone broke in she'd intimidate them and maybe even bite them :)

Brisbane is disarmingly cute and fluffy, but he's also quite fond of biting people. While he requires a ton of training and management, the tradeoff is that he is an amazing security system. He's quite loud in the house so anyone trying to break in would have him trying to break out to get them at the same time, but he's pretty good about ignoring neighborhood noises that don't involve delivery trucks. He's also totally cool with people he has met before, even years later, so I can leave the house unlocked so a friend can pick something up.

I routinely leave my car running with the air conditioning on. I also live in a fairly crummy part of town and have lived in even worse places where I felt totally safe walking at night. Brisbane would be happy and relaxed walking during the day, but alerted on anyone late at night.

Over the holidays someone tried to break into the house while Briz and I were gone for the night. That incident may be enough to convince my husband that we need another homicidal dog before Brisbane gets too much older.

Natasha would and will alert me by barking if there are strange sounds or somebody knocks or opens the door. She's a good alarm, yes, but when faced with something she's afraid I'm the one who reassures her. If I'm calm, she's mostly calm.
So with serious matters, I am HER alarm.

Penn has a much louder& meaner bark than she looks like she would have.

I don't find her to be a visual deterrent at all. I think she looks lovely& kind. There are lots of people, however, who find her scary looking and when we are out for a run, a lot of people go out of their way to avoid getting close to her. Also I've had a ton of people ask if she's a pitbull so I have little faith in what people find scary ahah

Watson has a big bark when he wants to, and will alert to anything suspicious outside the house, or at night.

But visually he's cute and fluffy and not a deterrent, and I'm pretty sure he wouldn't do anything except bark at an intruder. So no, he's not great security, but at least he'll alert and sound bigger and scarier than he is.

Walter can have a scary bark, but I don't think he would actively protect me at all. He's very friendly.

Joey and Lucy are great alert barkers. Joey would bark at an intruder, but he wouldn't go after one. Lucy on the other hand......you gotta watch out for the little red one.....she be crazy.

I can relate to this post. My Doberman (it's a common trait with the breed) didn't bark at the drop of a hat... he did a lot of watching. But when he did, I knew he was telling me something. My Poodles bark so much at every little thing, shrill...awful. I don't get riled up if they bark. Sometimes I'll check out the window, which helps them to stop, but it's your classic story of the boy who cried wolf. The best chances I have with them is that they'll annoy the intruder so much, he'll just go away so they'll stop.:rofl1:

Cute picture Georgy girl.

I definitely feel safer with dogs in the house. I also feel safer about the house when we are gone.

Iggy is the biggest alert barker, sometimes unnecessarily. He will bark at vehicles driving by to slowly, ect. Which sometimes is good, but we live on a dirt road so 80% of the people drive slow. :rofl1: He sounds mean as heck, though, and I do believe he would back his bark up.

Rider would be next in line, even though he is one of our softer dogs. He sounds pretty mean, but I don't know that his size would scare many off. He would definitely bite someone, though, especially if I were home. Then he would pee on the floor.

Harlow puts up a good front, but I don't think she would act on it. Tulsa. AHAHAHAHAHA. No way. No friggen way. She has the strangest bark ever, she sounds like she's smoked 4 packs a day for 20 years. It is very raspy sounding. She also would not hurt a fly. Maybe lick them to death and sucker punch them in the crotch.

Well...um...his bark...wait no he doesn't bark when people are at the door.

So maybe...his looks? Dammit he is a light-colored doofus with the biggest "i-can't-wait-to-meet-you" smile and butt wiggles.

Oh I know I know, when he...well dammit he doesn't even jump on people when they come inside.

Nope, if someone comes breaks in, we're doomed. I have literally had a stranger open the door to my apartment unannounced and Finn smiled and butt-wiggled all the way towards him.
