Portland just banned mountain biking from the biggest section of trails we had. Their own science reports listed Dogs (on or off leash) and off leash hiking/biking as the major threats to the area. So they banned on trail biking.

I am really annoyed with Portland right now. Its hard to come up with a better place, but sometimes they do really stupid things here.

Las Vegas is an interesting city.
Love it in some respects, not so much in others.
Though, I imagine every place is like that in some way..
The quality of life varies greatly from neighborhood to neighborhood.

Threat to what? Wildlife or scaring away walkers? Here I think our parks limit use if something is in the area a certain time of year but the parks are big enough people can use them to( though some do not allow dogs but most do!).

Overall I LOVE North Carolina - lots of dog stuff, hiking aplenty, close to both mountains and beaches, all four seasons, but nothing extreme, low cost of living, decent arts scene in my area, etc. I haaaaaate some of the political crap going on right now, but that's literally the only thing I dislike.

Wildlife, particularly salmon in the river below. Everything here revolves around the endangered salmon. Except for the giant dams they built.

Reality is probably that some hiker groups complained. We've got a strong continent of Sierra Club type people here. Anything besides walking is just murdering baby salmon and elk ;) I think they're the same people who voted against water fluoridation.

On the other hand, many of those same people support on road biking, which is the reason you move to Portland, so you don't have to drive a car to do everything. Except for mountain biking of course.

I love where I live. I live in a rural town of about 4200 people give or take. I am surrounded by mountains, forest, rivers and lakes. There is tons of out door stuff to do a 10 minute bike ride will take you to an area do to downhill mountain biking. There is loads and loads of hiking, camping and mountain biking. I am surrounded by nature and fresh air.

I am 30 minutes from an amazing ski hill-although this year they have not been getting lots of snow. We are about 30 from a mountain fed lake and about and hour from a huge lake with sandy smooth beaches. We spend most of the summer there camping and boating.

Living here is full of tons of adventure and awesome.
