My MIL does that, it's funny and even she laughs... Her dog (Female) is always he, and her cats (1 male/ 1 female) are always she... LOL

Yep, I've noticed alot of people (esp. none-dog people) call all dogs "he" and all cats "she". Though I think the German language itself doesn't help generisation at all when it comes to cats & dogs.
"Der Hund" = The Dog. "Der" is male.
"Die Katze"= The cat. "Die" is female.

Totally learned this in my German lessons.

Uhhh I told Webster "Good girl!" the other day. The "girl" just kind of slipped out...I was rotating dogs during training sessions and well girls have the majority here and are alliterative.

He didn't care.

Ah, okay. I just wanted to make sure I didn't sound like, "OMG, you know anybody who's awful like this?" Some responses made it sound like I was feeling sorry for the dogs.


To clarify, I am talking about people who can't get their own dog's gender right. Other people's animals is different.

I know a handful of people who call ALL dogs and/or cats exclusively by one pronoun or the other. The people I know are completely aware of it and acknowledge that they do it regardless of their pet's actual gender, though. Just a habit thing for some people, especially if they've always had one gender or the other.

I'm watching my Mom's 2 girls for her for awhile right now... But I'm so used to the boys.... I keep using him/he/his/ & "good boy." LOL. They don't seem to care though.

Morgan is called "she" all the time, by everybody except us who live in the house with him. I don't know if it's because of the name, or because he's small/skinny, or what. Poor boy.

Well, I know with my MIL it's because ALL of her pets are girls, so OF COURSE all our pets are girls, too. :rofl1:
