Working, herding breeds. They fit my lifestyle, and what I want from my dogs. There are a lot of breeds I LIKE, but realistically would never have.
I admire bully breeds but would not own one, as I have multiple dogs and I just do not want that potential for dog aggression to be in the mix.
The one terrier I would have would be a smooth coat, JRT or Patterdale. I can't stand wire coats, lol.
I do like some sighthounds but most are far too sensitive for me. I have a friend with an Irish Wolfhound, and he is a fantastic dog. I can't say I could pass up an opportunity to own one of them if it came up.

I like smart dogs. I mean smart as in independent thinkers, problem solvers, emotionally intelligent, thinks for thinks for themselves smart and not the "OMG tell me what to do next I'll do anything to make you HAPPY because that makes me HAPPY!" smart. And I don't like happy go lucky, dopey dogs.
I'm not a huge fan of super soft temperaments, I don't like a dog who's everyone's best friend, I don't like a dog with no protective instincts and I can't stand a nervy dog. I like a dog with lots of drive, preferably food drive. I like a dog who likes to work. I like a one person dog who bonds strongly to me.

So in short, I like aloof, intelligent, solid tempered, protective, drivey, complex and a velcro dog. :p Dachshunds, Border Terriers, Ridgebacks, Saluki, German Shorthaired Pointer and Viszla are all favorites of mine.

APBTs are my heart breed and I'm definitely a terrier person. Pretty much any terrier but small, scruffy dogs are some of my faves. I love their spunky temperaments and working abilities. Most are a great size too.

But, I pretty much love all dogs with the exception of some breeds. Real working dogs always catch my attention although I myself will probably never own them since I don't have much work for them to do other than some fun sports. I love Great Danes and will have more sometime in the future. My Kaiser really did me in. lol

Different types...

Well, I like sighthounds and podencos a lot, love their looks and sometimes their personality, yet there are gundogs that I really like, and I would like to own a herding breed someday, but I'm not definded on a breed or group, Natasha is my first dog and I'm still learning, so in the future, maybe, but not for now.

I like them fluffy, soft, happy in general and happy to be energetic but always appreciate a day on the sofa, cute and happy.

.. I like my dogs like I like my boyfriends.
Minus the fluffy part :rofl1:

I don't ask for much dog wise. I find myself much more drawn towards the "regular family dog" type dogs than the overly driven/"special" in any way.
Just a "good dog" you know?

I tend to prefer "natural looking" dogs, if that is a thing, just noextreme anatomical features.

Size wise I either prefer a solid medium (35ish lbs) or tiny (10 lbs-).. not too big and not just smallish.

I tend to like sporting/working type breeds.

A good looking, large, intelligent, collected, watchful dog with polite social manners, an imposing bark if needed, and the drive to respond to its owner. Even better if they're goofy and love to play. (Which is probably why I ended up with a Chessie.)

That being said, I also the generic "bully breed" type dog (or Labrador) - full body waggers, don't give a care about what you're doing to them, love everybody, kind of dopey, will do anything you want them to because that is AWESOME, just 110% completely enthusiastic about life.

If we're talking physical looks, I like floppy ears (only exception is Corgi), long tails (ditto), short fur, long-ish head and muzzle, large eyes that don't bulge, brown eyes, not a huge fan of lots of white, I don't like thick bodies and any size besides huge (90+lbs) is fine.

If we're talking looks then mine follow eachother pretty closely. I like shorter fur (or feathering) up ears (ok so most sighthounds don't have that but all of them should) and svelte bodies with long legs.

I am very much a terrier person. They just suit me perfectly. I even love their scruffy coats. It's so derable. Now I would not say I am a mastiff person. It more breed specific than that. You could not catch me dead with a English mastiff or a bull mastiff, even a French mastiff. I lean towards the working mastiff, which to me are in a leage of their own. Panzer is from working lines. His dad is a very seriouse boerboel. I prefer my mastiffs lean, muscular and energetic. I can see myself with another boerboel or a cane Corso in the future. And I respect the Fila. But I can't see myself owing one.

I like big old d-bags. Or at least that's how it seems anyway. ;)

I love scruffy mutts. If they have "ugly" aesthetics like truly unruly hair, an underbite, or missing an eye all the better. Somehow don't have one of these and it bums me out. Really like Hounds and Spitz breeds, but I can honestly be sold on any dog. Pretty into pointers as of lately, but I'm like 10 years out from another dog.

Spaniels and select Retrievers. I've admired dogs from other groups (herding especially) but I just don't think I'd ever actually own one.

I'm currently coveting a very specific dog, and it actually happens to be a Retriever (I've known her since she was an itty bitty baby of 8 weeks, she's "available" to me but I can't actually have her).

I pretty much have a 'type' but sometimes I stray.

For the most part I really like dogs that can have a lot of energy when necessary, but don't really want 'hyper'. I like a dog that can be clown-ish but is also serious. I love a dog who is very into me... but can still be okay and friendly with strangers when necessary. I do like a bit of independence though at the same time but not too much. I like dogs who are aware and smart and somewhat intuitive. Definitely a dog who enjoys learning and training. I also have a strong 'want' for dogs who are into fetching, swimming, etc, it just makes life so much more fun. :p Also don't typically like the happy go lucky love everyone type but it really depends on how a dog expels their happy energy lol. Hard to explain. Like I love most Goldens so much more than Labs. Different energy/vibe.

As far as looks go, I prefer lighter build, lean-type body, I do really like prick ears but certain breeds with floppy ears I just love too. I don't mind hair but don't like really thick poofy type hair.

Basically, love me some small terriers, Border Terrier being my favorite (if they had prick ears, they'd be 1000% perfect, hehe) followed by Silky. I've even looked into Rat Terriers a bit more lately. But I do love a good Westie or Cairn too, though their more bullet-shaped body isn't my preference.

And I've never owned a herder but I seem like I would mesh with the right ones very well. A Border Collie is still always on my mind but it would definitely have to be the right one for me and from the right breeder. I've done the big debate over and over in my head between BC's, Aussies, and ES's.

Basically like small terriers and herders seem to be my 'type' and what I really want in a dog. Not much in other groups interest me.

On the flip side, my kind of weird off-path wants include a Dogue de Bordeaux WAY into the future... I have a want for a giant breed but I can't see myself wanting one until maybe I'm a bit older, have a family of sorts, and not really interested in dog sports, etc. Right now they don't fit my current wants but I have a soft spot for them. Same with a Golden Retriever -- I love me a good Golden, and sometimes I get a 'want' for them but really the size is off putting at the moment. I really would like to try and stay under 35-40lbs. And then I do always love a good toy dog (Chihuahua and Havanese come to mind as breeds I could see myself owning) who is just mostly great as being a companion.

I also really mesh well with Dobermans and Rottweilers but I will probably always admire them from afar. Not sure I'd ever actually own them or not.

As my living situation changes, I find myself more and more drawn to German Shepherds and herding-type dogs.

Growing up I always had the curs (blackmouth and Catahoulas): spectacular, sturdy, hard-headed, lovable dogs with a serious mind of their own. They were exactly what we needed as hunting and companion animals and even now I could see myself owning another in a heartbeat.

That said, I travel a lot for work, and my ideal dog would be slightly easier to train with a solid work ethic and an off switch. I want a medium-size Velcro dog (aloofness with strangers is A-Okay) who will be my buddy on backpacking trips, bike rides, and the occasional night in. Unfortunately, I haven't figured out exactly which type of herder best fits the bill (and so I'm still dogless!)

I'm really drawn to the herders. ACD's obviously, as well as the Koolie and the ES. Possibly a nice Aussie. I like harder dogs though, so ACD's fit the bill for me right now (and probably forever).

I really love Greyhounds for some reason, but I cannot see myself owning one. Long haired Whippets, same thing.

I love bully breeds. I've always said if I lived on Lake Michigan without future hobby farm, I would have a pack of Pitties and Boxers. I really do love my Boxer, but Lord, she isn't what I want in a dog. I like a dog who will work as long as I want. Harlow doesn't do that. I like a stubborn streak in a dog, but I like them to actually think about why they are being asked to do said thing. Just because you don't want to come inside doesn't mean you can blow me off type thing.

Vizsla's are also a love of mine, but I can't justify it.

JRT's are growing on me lately (because of Ado's dogs). I could see myself owning one someday in addition to my herders.

Working, some herding, and Curs. Sibes, Malamutes, Akitas, Catahoulas, Rhoadies, BCs, a gundog breed here and there. I like a dog that likes to work and has plenty of energy to burn without having brains like scrambled eggs.

Physically I go for elegant looking dogs with slim bodies and deep chests, types that look like runners or pullers or dogs just BUILT to move effortlessly and efficiently. Medium to long coat with or without feathering. Red trumps all colors.
