Usually it's FedEx or UPS, so I generally do answer the door, but I take my sweet time. Aeri literally bounces off the door, so by the time I get there, anyone who sticks around is standing 4 steps down. ;)

Not unless I'm expecting someone - but where I live there's rarely anyone trying to sell anything.

This week I'm house-sitting for a family friend that lives in the suburbs.

Yesterday the doorbell rang (and the dogs here went nuts) and I opted to ignore it. Turns out they were a group of teens on a snow-day that were trying to get money for shoveling driveways. I WISH I answered because I hurt my back shoveling later lol.

About the only people that knock on my door are Jehovahs and sales people. I usually ignore knocks or peak through a side window to see who it is. Always thought it would be funny to put a sign on the door "Don't disturb me, I AM GOD!!" :D :p

I crack the door and let Corvus throw himself at the storm door a time or two, and if whoever it is sticks around past that, I figure it must be important enough to answer. :p

I am a senior and live by myself except for my dogs. I have a window in my back door so can see who is there. I very seldom have anyone strange come to my door. I have a very long driveway and usually have my front gate closed and not many people want to walk that far plus Susie and Kris are usually outdoors. Even if they are not, the JW's leave their brochures on my gate as Susie has met them with growls even though she is usually friendly with everyone else. Think she must have picked up that I want them to go away and not bother me. Never have door to door sales people.

in the 3 years that we've lived here, I don't think anyone that we weren't expecting has ever knocked on the door. oh wait, I take that back, the Jehovah Witnesses used to stop by. My husband made the mistake of talking to them once.

We're rural and whoever wants to get to the front door would have to go through 3 gates and 2 loud dogs. So far, no one has tried.

I never open the door if I'm not expecting company. My best friend always calls... from my driveway. She's forgiven because she knows what I take in my coffee.

Oh yeah, but I do answer if I look out and see Girl Guides. Always disappointing when they have those mint cookies instead of the Vanilla/Chocolate ones though.

Definitely do, it could be friends, landlord (when I'm on campus), neighbor, locked out roommate, etc. It's a pain with a really loud dog that loves to bark and body slam everything, but if it's someone sketchy (or a solicitor) it works to my advantage and otherwise I send him to a different room.

We have an intercom thing that when someone rings the bell I can speak to them and ask them what they want before I open the door ;) since we have a fence our doorbell is by the gate.

Noooooooooooooooooo.

But I live in the ghetto.

Anyone who would be coming over either has a key to my place or has my phone number. If I don't recognize the person, i don't open the door for them.

Yes, but only if it is painfully obvious that someone is home. If it is someone I don't recognize Crystal works to my advantage because she is a loud, somewhat menacing shepherd-y looking dog (albeit small lol).

Unless I'm expecting someone, nope. It's usually Mormons, Witnesses (we live down the road from one of their churches), or someone trying to sell something. Once we had a packet left at our door by a church laying out a detailed argument for why the world was ending that May. Not only were they wrong, but they were not anyone I'd want to open the door for.

No typically I don't unless someone is supposed to be coming over. 99% of the time, it's solicitors.

I answer the door if I'm expecting someone. Friends will call or text on their way over. Or, I just hang out outside and wait for them because most likely they're coming over to have a dog play date or train.

But, if someone comes to the door while I'm home without Mr. Boats...I just let them knock. I work from home, so I am usually around during the day. The only people who knock on our door is someone trying to sell something. I just let the dogs bark. Our front window is such that I can catch a glimpse of someone standing there so I can get an idea if it's someone I want to talk with (9.9 times out of 10...it isn't.)

Earlier this year, there was a string of break ins in RI where burglars were posing as "town workers" and forcing their way into homes when women answered the door. That's the other reason I don't open the door. Yes, I have two Rottweilers and God help anyone who comes in here unarmed to do harm. But, I would rather just not even tempt that sort of fate...so the door stays closed.

Yes. Often in a towel. The delivery guys brought me my food in half the time. :D

But I usually had three LOUD dogs behind me... So never really alone?
