Do you answer the front door when you're alone?

I usually don't (unless I expect someone of course). Between having to keep the dog away because he goes nuts, and the fact that 99% of the time, it's people who want to sell me stuff, I just ignore it... And yeah I'm sure that they know there is someone home most of the time, and it's probably rude, but sheesh... nothing like having to turn away yet another person while trying to keep the dog from rushing out of the door (he's not aggressive at all but he will try to get to the person). Just can't be bothered.

Is it just me?

I live in a tiny village in the middle of nowhere.. If someone is at the door they usually have a reason to be there!

I HATE answering the door and I don't 95% of the time. Most of the time they are sales people and it's really hard for me to be rude to them. SO has no problem saying "no thank you" right away and shutting the door. If I did that I'd feel like a jerk.

I grew up in the country on a dead end gravel road where the only people at the door were people delivering packages and friends/family. The friends and family never knocked, they just walked right in since we didn't lock the doors. I kinda miss that sometimes.

Yeah when I grew up it wasn't a small town by any means but we didn't have people trying to sell your stuff like here. It drives me nuts!

Yes, but two things:

1. I'm a man. I know it's different for ladies (either perceived or actual level of comfort).
2. I have windows on either side of the door, so I can see who it is (and they can see I'm in there) before I answer.

2(a). Xena's crate is right at the door. She runs into it so she can sniff/bark at people from there when the door is open a crack. That's perfect for shooing away people I don't want to talk to.

i might add we have 2 very loud dogs who sound scarier than they are, and we have cctv. And the business office is attached to the house and there's someone in there 99% of the time.

Now..... Window cleaners. Don't get me started on them :rofl1: I hide from window cleaners.

Yes. If I can't tell who's out there, I answer the door with Roxie. If she's happy as normal, I tell her to go lay down while I deal with it.

But usually I can tell who's out there and Roxie just gets told to lay down while I go see what they want. Most of the time my neighbors just need help or would like for me to watch their dog for them. It's very rare that people who I don't know come knocking.

Anybody who rings our doorbell/knocks on the door is most likely not anyone we want to talk to... so we pretty much never answer the door, regardless of who's home. Unless we're expecting pizza of course :p

Family just walks in, friends either text that they're here or they just walk in too. And, ya know, we're generally expecting them.

When I was living where this is applicable, sort of...but I ran into so many skeevy situations that I stopped rushing to get there. If it was someone really insistent I would eventually answer it :p. I had sales people get seriously angry when I wouldn't accept their offer and bother me when working in the yard and stuff.

I do. But I have Abrams right behind me roaring at the top of his lungs. If it is something anticipated, I squeeze out onto the front porch and shut the door so he's contained. If it is someone I don't want to speak with/am not comfortable with I'll grab Abrams by the scruff/collar and hold him with the door ajar while I say thanks, no thanks. They typically scurry away in a hurry/don't come within 6 feet.

*I* know that if Abrams got to them he'd just give them kisses, but they don't know that. And if they tried to force their way in, they'd be met with an angry Chessie.

If I didn't have him, I may not unless I had a peep hole and or/was expecting someone.

I generally don't answer the door ever lol. Unless I see the mail truck is outside or I'm expecting someone (which I never am lol).

It's not fear or anything, it's just usually someone trying to sell me something. I am incapable of saying no so answering the door usually ends with me spending money or changing religions :rofl1:

Alone or not, I really don't answer the door unless I'm expecting someone or a delivery. I don't feel unsafe, and I can easily see who is at the door and even talk to them without opening it if I so choose, but in the city there are too many door to door solicitors and I have no desire to interact with them.

i have a weird undiagnosed anxiety about talking on the phone and answering the door. I refuse to do either, even if someone else is there. So, no I definitely dont. If its someone who knows me personally they can just text or email. Otherwise, I dont care what they want they can go away

Yeah I don't answer the phone either if I don't recognize the number. So sick of people calling to ask for money...

Yes... because I always have at least three large dogs backing me up, silently, which usually freaks people out. So while SoCal isn't the safest place on earth, I do answer my door.

I need that sign!

I never answer the door unless I'm expecting a package or someone is coming over.

It's so frustrating having a baby and getting solicitors. They ring the doorbell, the dogs bark, and then they wake up the baby. I want to put a sign up that says "All solicitors will be eaten by my dogs." :p
