Do little smokies really need to be refrigerated?

I bought a pack of little smokies on sale, and sort of left them in the car overnight until noon the next day. It wasn't hot out, but it wasn't cold like a refrigerator either. Do they really need to be refrigerated? What if I boil the crap out of them first?

I really want to eat them for dinner, but I don't want to get sick :(

Well I can't ENSURE that you won't get sick from them but I strongly suspect they will be OK. Most processed meat has a ton of preservatives in it anyhow.

I wouldn't do it, over night and till noon the next day? Nope, wouldn't take the chance, LOL........I am overly cautious about those things though. I have never ONCE in all my years of cooking, being a mom and/or wife given anyone food poisoning and I want to keep that record intact :rofl1: I did nearly kill us with canned hot dog sauce once...........but a member here posted about that brand being recalled after killing and injuring other people in my area! *phew* CLOSE CALL! I had that exact brand sitting in my cupboard, correct lot number and everything!

While it's true that processed meats like hot dogs, smokies, bologna, etc have tons of preservatives, those preservatives are meant to keep them fresh LONGER in the fridge.........all sorts of scary things start to grow at room temperature (or warmer) and you just never know. They would most likely TASTE and SMELL fine, but they will land you in the bathroom right quick.........and possibly the hospital.

Heh probably better to follow ACoop's advice. I've never gotten food poisoning and my parents fed me all kinds of... questionable stuff. So perhaps I have an immunity.

And what is hot dog sauce ? lol

Well like I said, I am OVERLY cautious about those things, LOL..........I have cleaned enough vomit and other *things* having 5 kids in this house and I really don't enjoy it much, hahahaha

And hot dog sauce is pretty much runny chili in a can meant to go on hot dogs :D I normally make my own home made using an A&W copy cat recipe, but when I run out (I freeze it) or am pressed for time I buy canned...........not even CLOSE to home made, but the kids think it's better than nothing, LOL

This is the exact brand that landed people in the hospital a few years back for botulism:

Don't do it! So not worth the risk and you will NEVER be able to enjoy them again. That alone would keep me from eating them. I am probably over cautious as well but when it comes to feed, I always feel it is better to be safe than sorry.

I wouldn't do it either. I've had food poisoning twice and it's NOT fun. Seriously. A stomach flu is nothing compared to food poisoning. Ugh.

For what it's worth, I had cake and ice cream for dinner instead, and then a slice of pizza for dessert :rofl1:

I figure I'll let it go. I'd rather cut my losses and give up the $2 I spent on them than stay in bed puking and miss work.

I really want some right now though, I think I have to go buy some more tomorrow lol
