I was looking through a local online classifieds site the other day for nothing in piticular and came upon an ad which read....

" Hi, Im looking to trade my adorable husky for a good reptile, contact me if intrested".

I think it's disgusting, how could someone so carelessly "trade" their dog for a "good" reptile, what does that even encompass? I know many worse fates befall dogs every day but still it's just so cold and I feel so much for his poor pup and what hands he might fall into is.

I don't know If I should have but I contacted the owner as I used to breed reptiles to see what species he's looking at, if he can actually care for them etc. If it turns out I have a species he's looking for and he can care for it, I am considering taking him. I am in contact with a rescue group that may be willing to take him and foster/ adopt him out. What do you guys think, am I just over reacting?

I would love to keep him myself especially as I adore this breed but it would be too irresponsible as me as I really cant finicially take care of more then one dog right now that Im doing school/apprenticeship and not making much money.
Thanks
Kayla

My question would be, is a person like this the kind of person you want one of your reptiles going to?

Maybe though, he is realizing a dog is too much and a reptile would be a better companion. It's probably worth looking into though.

I agree...look into it.
I don't know if I would trade one of my "good" reptiles...I mean, what if he just gets bored of the "good" reptile and wants to trade it for something cooler later on???

Ya, next time it could be "trade for good hamster" or "good bird"

I just don't know about some people..........do they have NO emotional connection with these living, breathing, feeling, beings at all?

Perhaps the dog should place his own ad for trading HIS human for a "good human"

Oh! I ran into something like this a year ago, only it was someone trading a german shepherd for birds. I dont know, honestly its sort of like trading a dog for money. Maybe, like someone said before, the dog is just too much work. Especially it being a siberian husky, a very difficult breed. And who said that he was just going to give the dog to just anyone who came along with a reptile? He could be looking for a good home for the dog. That's just my thought. I'd definetly look into it more though before jumping to conclusions.

No response I can't seem to make any contact with him even though I've sent him multiple e-mails, here's hoping this boy lands with someone who gives him what he needs.

I think this makes me uneasy because it seems so callous to just trade the dog for a reptile, especially since that would require finding someone you want to give your dog to, who also has a reptile you want, who is willing to give you their reptile. Its a long shot, and sounds like a great way for everyone, especially the animals, to end up unhappy. Also, if the dog was too much work, is he aware of the difficulties in keeping reptiles? SOme of them are low maintenance, but some of them, frankly, the dog may take more time, but is a heck of a lot EASIER to care for.

Yeah, I don't think I'd trade this guy a reptile, even if I wanted his husky, which I probably don't, since its probably poorly trained.
