Please do not try to sell me ridiculously overpriced scraps of fabric.

That's all.

It seems like a very simple request, but I still see bikinis for $100 and more. What about a bikini could possibly make it that valuable? It's a few scraps of fabric. I can't even make a whole tank top out of the largest bikini, and yet I can get most camis for under $20.

I want pretty ones in the $20 range. Not cheap pieces of junk that fall apart after you've worn them a few times. Do any of you know good places to get swimwear that isn't crazily expensive?

I also really want this one, but for $225 the model had better be included. I'm not sure I'd pay $225 for a gown - certainly not for a bikini.

ooooh I like the bikini, but yeah, that's a LOT. :(

Designers don't bother me as much as the retailers...
I like in "Surf City USA" yet all of the surf shops here only have bikini's when I would really like a tankini or a one piece. :/

Honestly...you sort of get what you pay for. At least here there's no way you'd find ANY swimsuit for 20$ except maybe on sale at walmart (even regularly they're more like 40).

I usually buy my swimsuits at target or somewhere similar and pay around 40$ or 50$. They are pretty much crap. They last *maybe* one whole summer.

I bought a swimsuit for 80$ at Macy's once and it was much nicer and laster longer.

Plus, I find the cheaper ones get warped in the wash, get all pilly, etc.

Plus, that 225$ swimsuit is hand embroidered. It's really intricate and well made. You could probably find something similar but less detailed or whatever for like $100.

I like how the $202 is crossed out and $225 is in red. Like it's a deal. Must have missed the memo that you're supposed to slash the HIGHER price...

I still have swimsuits I bought at Target from 4-5 years ago and I paid probably $20-25 for both the top and bottom. I've also bought cheap ones at Kohls and Old Navy before but I tend to like the ones I buy at Target best just because they often have cuter designs. The bottoms used to get pilly when I wore them to the pool and sat on concrete in them, but now I wear board shorts so they don't get all scrubbed up on the concrete.

ETA: Oh dear God, I thought about it and it's actually been more like EIGHT years since I bought some of these at Target. Holy cow I feel old.

I bought a bikini at walmart three years ago....i grew out of it...but it i still going strong...i spent 30 dollars including tax (approx)

Good luck!

I guess if you don't live on the beach, bikinis last longer :p

Those of you that have target/wal mart bikinis from 3+ years ago, how often do you wear them in a year? Plus I guess pools are probably a lot less rough on them than the ocean....so depending on how much you plan on wearing it/how rough you plan on being on it, maybe a 30-40$ bikini might last. I got one on sale at target for 25$ the other day, one was like just under 40$ regular price, and then I got a slightly nicer one for 50$.

Ya, I don't think even walmart bikini's are close to $20

Maybe it's time for you to take up the craft of macrame? If you DO, you could make a fortune just doing bikini's because my quickie search online shows they are a HAWT commodity and all very pricey :D

I spent like $85 on a Speedo racing suit one year and I wore that thing for YEEEEARS.

I've actually been pretty pleased with suits from Kohl's. I need to get a new suit for this year myself.

I used to have one almost like this, lol! Except that it didn't have the bikini type bottom, the fabric from the top continued down and made the bottom so it didn't have the sides on it at all.

One of those victoria's secret bikinis (the miraculous) says it adds two cup sizes...

Who would want to look like they have two extra cup sizes in a bikini???

You're not supposed to throw them in the washing machine - most swim suits are hand wash only.

Oh I know. ;) I was just including it as once of the crazier examples. If you browse that site you'll see that it's not the most expensive thing on there, and some of the most expensive ones look like what you could get at any department store.

Fran, I love you. :p Thanks for the links. I actually just found out tonight that after a few extra washings, my old one isn't as ruined as I thought, so I may just wear it this year. It doesn't look great, but it's not terrible, either.

I know ;) They still do. But then again, being crushed by 6 ft waves against broken shells and rocks and things probably doesn't help. Plus I actually go to the beach pretty much every day in summer. That's like 90 days a year.

I can see where that would destroy a cheap suit pretty quickly.

I almost never go swimming, though (ocean OR pool) and some of mine still haven't lasted a summer.
