I saw a similar thread started by smkie, her dog cut its foot.
But Rikka, my German Shepherd, cut her ankle (back right) on a peice
of sheet metal. We took her to the vet, and they stitched it and bandaged it.
But she has ripped the bandage up, and it has started bleeding again for
some reason. Now its like we have to start all over again. I'm
just hoping we don't have to pay 100 more dollars to have it stitched
again if it needs it. What should I do?
We've been using gaws and tape to temporaraly (sp?) stop it from
bleeding. But nothing seems to work. Please help me!

Thanks,
schmitzgirly94 :)

Yeah, looks like you'll need "the collar". One of my girls had that after surgery, one thing she seemed to like about it is that it covered her food bowl so the other two couldn't try and sneak a bite out of it ;).

you can get a bitter apple spray and lightly apply it to the gauze. Vic's foot has me worried too. I am going back to the vet on Monday...because it is looking red and i think he better have some antibiotics. My labrador Charlie got a three prong fishing hook in his foreleg and didn't stop on his retrieve so he pulled it thru the skin from the "wrist" to the elbow needing 80 stitches. he chewed them out..the vet put them back in..he chewed them out so it had to heal as it was and it did just that without even leaving much of a scar. Vic's wound wouldn't stop bleeding off and on for two days. I am so sorry bout your pup. When i look at Vic's foot i just feel ill all over, it is like a gouge all the way into the very inside of the toe. He runs on it anyway but by the end of the day it is hurting him. I hope you can find some bitter apple in the morning, i don't know what else to recommend. i have to keep my eye on Vic and he knows he isn't suppose to tear it off but once i am asleep off it goes and i wake up to him licking the wound.I am out of bitter apple spray and won't be able to get any until monday too. If it was getting better i would just let him lick away, but it isn't.

These are so hard to treat...I feel for you. I've used the Elizabethan collars on several occasions ...some worked, some didn't . I know it depends on your situations, but my success was to have the dog with me at all times and reassured them when they wanted to bite and try to distract them through touch or loving words. Let them know it's hard for them but you're trying to make it better. Most will rather listen to you than bite at their wounds. Good Luck!!

You might ask your vet if the cut can be closed using adhesive (Super glue gel). I've used it on several occasions at the recommendation of my vet and had good success with it. They don't pull it off as badly as they do stitches either, especially if you keep something like vaseline, which tastes foul, around it. That serves a double purpose as it keeps it from itching so much too.

Thanks guys!
I took her back to the vet and sure enough,
they gave her an Elezabethan Collar.
I feel bad for her because she has a hard
time moving. But I know she'll be alright soon. :)
