Which part? The quote, or the fact that I think it is more likely that an intact golden was running loose than a toller?

The entire quote, if that's what you are referring to, is the saying, "When you hear hoofbeats, think horses, not zebras." In other words, the simplest or most common answer is more likely to be correct.
OH okay! I had never heard that before. Thanks for explaining. :)

I believe I have a golden sheltie mix rescue too

Sutton will be 5 yrs next mo. Got him at 2 mo. at Dallas SPCA. He's very bright, talkative, loves people, not so much around other animals, does tons of tricks, playful, has and acts like a puppy, paws like a cat, chases squirrels and rabbits, is very fast, sensitive, amazing speed, webbed feet, softest fur I've ever felt, thick undercoat, weighs 26.5 lbs. Not sure how to attach pictures to show you mine, but they look almost identicle.

Your baby is not the only one!

Here is my exgirlfriend's dog. She is a great dog.

She immediately rolls over onto her back when you approach; assuming that you will pet her.

She is smart, but not sneaky.

She listens but is still very much a free spirit.

She likes to retrieve, chase the bordercollie and be chased.

She is very fast but not as agile as the 3 year old BC.

She is 25lbs and had big ears and a hefty stance as a pup but she grew into a long, slender body.

She does not shed that much.

She does not smell or need baths (she hate hate HATES baths and brushing) but sometimes has bad breath and tartar.

She loves to eat poop and is generally very food motivated. She often ate food from the bag before it hit the bowl. (I did not like this and would feed the BC first so she wouldn't try and steal food.

She howls like a beagle and is very quick to announce when she hears something.

She is scared of the vacuum but not terrified.

She is scared of thunder and lightning, but not as much as the BC.

She is a BIG TIME licky-face.

She has a fantastic sense of smell.

She does not like children and will snap if they crowd her too quickly.

She is a lapdog in the house (a lazy-assed one!) and an athlete in the field.

She digs, but does not dig to get out of the yard.

She likes to sunbath, but actually prefers the shade.

She licks/loves the BC but prefers her owners or her dogbed.

Here are the pictures on my Facebook page of the two dogs:
