Hi All,

Been awhile since I've last posted!!! Hubby & I are moving across the country to Seattle, WA at the end of May, and of course, Oakley is coming with us.

Would love to hear any tips anyone may have...

Oakley does fine in the car from the few times I have taken him on day trips (we have driven 12+ hrs together in one day quite a few times), but haven't ever really tried to do the night in a hotel, driving across the country thing...

We are going to need to stop & eat of course, so just trying to figure out the best ways to do that, since it likely may be too hot to leave him in the car at all. Also, we are hoping to stop & see a few things on the way.

Anyways, I don't even know what to plan for, so again, any tips are appreciated :)

Thanks!!

If there's two of you and you can't find a place with outdoor seating that allows dogs (not always easy on road trips) your best bet is to have one of you go in and order takeout/call it in and just eat in the car or picnic it...that's what we've always done.

Congrats on the move, I didn't know you got married LOL.

haha, don't think I have posted since I;ve gotten married :)

Good news, Oaks loves the hubby! It's actually pretty hilarious, sometimes I think he has an internal struggle of whom he likes better...especially if we aren't in the same room.

here are some pics from our wedding - hopefully the links work!!

Congrats on your marriage!

We generally only travel across half the US with dogs (18 - 20 hrs), but we plan on one or two take-out meals (usually get something like a hamburger or roast beef, minus bun, for whatever dog(s) is/are traveling with us), and pack sandwiches/snacks for the rest of the drive. As far as stopping to see stuff, we generally choose sites that are outdoor viewing and allow dogs (we plan that in advance, rather than impulse stopping).

We drive straight thru, but if we did stop at a hotel, that would be the only time I'd consider a sit-down meal in a restaurant. Too paranoid about weather and stupid people to leave my dog(s) unattended in a car in a restaurant parking lot. We don't even leave Riley alone at gas stations/rest stops - one of us is always with him (usually taking him out for a potty break, while the other tops off the tank and/or makes their own potty break). Like I said, though, I'm paranoid... ;)
