Cropping ears?????

I am wanting to get my min pin's ears cropped. I am having trouble finding some good pictures to take to the vet. Any one know of some good min pin pictures of cropped ears?

I am planning on showing her. I have an appointment to get her ears cropped already I just need some pictures. I always like to bring a picture of what I want so there are no quesions.

Maybe try looking for pictures at the Min Pin Club of America website or, are there any pictures of top winning Min Pins that you admire? You could print a picture of them and take that with you...?

I am so glad it is illegal where I live, and for that matter in most of the world.

Don't min pins ears stand up naturally? My friend has one whos ear pricked by themselves.

I never understood cropping ears being illegal. Sure it's inhumane but if you outlaw it people will do it themselves without a vet doing it and then you get into infections and all that stuff. It's better for the dog to get it done by a vet. At least it won't get butchered at home, get something in the wound, and die from a secondary infection.

It's illegal where I'm from too and people don't do it themselves. You never see a cropped dog down here unless it's an import.

I agree with showpug though. Try looking at the club website or even a magazine that shows champions. Perhaps some breeder websites will have good pictures?

Yep in Aus you don't see any dogs with cropped ears. I can honestly say I prefer un cropped ears! Floppy ears are just too cute

No one ever crops ears here. You get in big pooh if you have a cropped dog, they are not even allowed to be imported.

Like everyone else said - if you were to walk down the street with a cropped dog - you would stand out like a sore thumb!! It just isn't done. Ever.

The ears are set high and may be cropped or uncropped, but must stand erect in either instance. Since ear cropping is man-made, an otherwise excellent specimen should not be penalized for a poor ear trim.

A good ear crop can compliment the appearance of the head.

A poor ear crop may detract from the appearance of the same head, but the dog should NOT be penalized.

It is no more inhumane than a spay/neuter.

i'm going to leave the ethical question alone but one thing that stands out to me is - shouldn't you find a Vet that has enough experience so as not to REQUIRE a picture? I can't imagine having to rely on my Vets artistic abilities especially where my pup is concerned.

I'm quite close with a breeder of Brussels and she has even taken a template with her for cropping and still had major screw ups. She decides whether or not she'll crop based on the size and carriage of the ears. Some she leaves totally alone....I wish she'd leave them all alone.. She now flys her dogs to another province where a Vet is experienced with her breed and what a brussels with properly cropped ears should look like.

I've seen what can happen and I think that this is often gone into WAY too lightly. Why are you set on cropping with natural is so excepted now?

Agreeing with what Dr2little said about having to take a picture in; this isn't quite as simple as a new haircut. Without knowing how old your dog is yet, are you absolutly sure they won't stand on their own? If they are free-standing erect already, I would really save my money and leave them natural.

Where did you get her? If you are thinking of showing her was she sold as a show potential? Ask your breeder. That would be my first option.

i would check with your breeder, first off i would never have it done, but if it has to be so, i would want references. I would want to know that the vet has done this well a zillion times. I wouldn't just want him to go by a picture.I would call the min pin society, i am sure there is one, there sure is for labs and goldens, and find out whom it is that does this the best.
