Its annoying because I don't have many places to take him and that just made my list smaller. I still plan to take him to the plaza which has a baseball field and park behind it. I also am going to probley take him to the lake thursday to the water show. I just want to socialize him really well with people and dogs. Maggie is the perfect example of how many issues a dog can have when not properly socialized. Really the only places she does well is Petco and the dog park and thats still iffy.

In my Book of Operations . . . if there's no sign that says "No Dogs/Pets" then I feel free to go in with Kharma ;)

She's been to the bank, the utility company, Lowes, Home Depot, the finance companies the store uses to get customers financed . . . :D

If your dog is not allowed there, then go across the street to Home Depot (hopefully there's a home depot around). And don't ask, just confidently walk in.

Are you starting puppy classes soon? Most classes allow dogs as young as 9-10 weeks.

That sounds like a good idea Lizzy lol.

I want to wait until he is fully vaccinated before I take him to puppy class. But he is going for sure at the end of August after the last of his shots. All my neighbors have dogs and a few I know would be happy to have Sawyer over to visit.

Forgive the expression but I don't think I'd have the balls to just walk in to a place because it doesn't have a "No Dogs" sticker on the window

I've never been stopped when walking into Lowes with a dog..

Yup. Or, they don't NOT allow dogs.

I take Kharma in all the time.

If someone can take their little dog in, then I'm coming in with MY dog ;)
I hate above all is when they allow little "purse-fitted" dogs to go into a store, but won't allow bigger dogs. It's discrimination. I've seen the little Chihuahua's in Walmart, and they flew off the bat when I was near the store with Regis.. It's so aggervating that stores, even markets, get away with dog discrimination..

Lowes, TSC, Home Depot, the mall (which was like 5yrs ago with Maddie) where all places I took her to socialize. I met some very nice people working at those stores, IMO. They were glad to see someone working with a dog!

I wouldn't think of taking any of my dogs into a grocery store, but I've taken them into most other stores out here in Montana without a problem. Once, when walking into Staples with one of my Min Pins, (I was holding him,) an employee came over to me and said dogs weren't allowed, then I replied..."Oh, I needed some ink cartridges, but they're not worth leaving my dog in the car to die from heat (over 100 degrees that day,) so I'll buy them online," then turned to leave. As I was walking out, a manager came running over and said he'd be glad to help me and my dog, and he was glad to see I wasn't leaving my dog in the car.

I would not, however, expect to just walk into a department store with my Rottie on a leash. My min pin in my arms isn't going to intimidate other shoppers, but I've seen people at Petsmart intimidated by my Rottie, and they're supposedly "dog people," and he's the most well socialized, perfect gentleman of a dog that I've ever seen, but I prefer not to infringe on other people's rights to shop in peace, and if they see a big dog, and they're scared, I'm definitely infringing. I DO, take him to Petsmart, and any other store that specifically allows dogs, I just won't ever push the envelope with him.

However, when my Rottie was a pup, my wife and I did take him everywhere, and that was in the Philly area where people aren't as tolerant about dogs as they are out here. We were never asked to leave a store, and more often than not, the cashiers wouldn't LET us leave the store, they were too busy petting the cute little puppy.

It all comes down to the type of store and the type of people in the area. I love all of my dogs, but that love doesn't give me the right to infringe on anyone else's rights to enjoy a day shopping. If I take my big dog to Petsmart and people don't like him there, that's too bad, the sign on the front of the store says that dogs are welcome, so they know ahead of time. If I take him into Wal-Mart, and a kid who has severe anxiety over big dogs sees him, freaks out, and freaks his mom out, then it's not fair to them. They thought they were just out shopping, and they had no idea they'd be walking the same aisles as a Rottweiler, and if they hate Rotties, that's their right.

Even with all their shots they can get parvo. My puppy got it even though she didn't go any where, we must have brought it in on us. She was 5 months and died. Be careful!

I've been stopped walking into home depot. There is still no sign saying no dogs, but I wouldn't try again. it was over 40 degrees Cecilius here and I wanted to return something quick.. Chick started having a fit that dogs aren't allowed for a reason. Except I've seem dogs since in there.

That is a HUGE pet peeve of mine. They tell you that you aren't allowed to bring your dog in, except you see other dogs walking around without being told to leave. On multiple times. *sizzles*

No employee has ever said that to me, lol . . . a customer or two has - always someone with a pocketbook dog though.

My reply is always, "oh, where's the sign?" While Kharma sits quietly and their dog yaps at her. :D

I take Sawyer in to Lowe's and Home Depot with me. I've even taken him into Best Buy after getting it cleared with the manager.

If you really want to take your dog places, go get them approved as a service dog.....some therapy dogs are considered service dogs, btw.

I can relate though to the poster above who states that it sounds great, as long as you aren't infringing on the rights of others to enjoy their shopping. There are places around here that allow dogs, but discretion comes into play. On a quiet evening, I'll take a dog in the store. On a Saturday with a huge clearance sale? I don't always want to be in those crowds myself, how is a dog going to feel? Or the other people around?
