However, I'm not sure I would recommend a martingale for a brachycephalic breed such as the CKCS.The breed already tends to have a higher predisposition to airway problems, pulling on a martingale may accentuate that.

My friend has sometimes used a collar on Lotta. If she is going to buy a new collar, she will use it only in training. She is not going to buy an actual training collar.

A martingale can be used as a training collar, but it's really not (compared to a prong, pinch, or choke.)....//.....it's not really snug enough to be any kind of aversive...

My friend is thinking that would the dog notice tightening of the leash if the dog is wearing a collar. Would the martingale collar work so that it would get the dog to notice it since it doesn't stay tight all the time? Or is there different kind of ordinary collar that would work that way? The collar should be such that it would give only a very light nudge.

As so done said it really depends on the dog, but it have yet to own one that responded to the tightening go a martingale.

Even a choke chain (is there a more PC term for them?) if not used correctly will do nothing but choke a dog.

Kris' new collar

I finally found a collar the width I wanted. It has a proper buckle on it, not one of those plastic snap in ones. The pink decoration on it is a rubber material and it is really well made.....and it only cost me $6.00 at a Pet Store I had not been in before.

The color on Juno's GDS collar is fading and that makes me sad Okay, it's still totally neon lol and I only notice it when I take the collar off because it still looks brand new on the inside. I just hope it doesn't continue to fade!! But I still love it. Juno & Cajun pretty much wear theirs 24/7 except when I feel like putting their blingy collars on for going out in public
