Hello, my question to you is, with a small Chi, can they be left alone for longer than 3-5 hours or would they need to have a buddy to do so? Such as another small dog?

Thanks! :)

Yes, Romeo is a chi and he can be left alone for that long. they are just like other dogs, only little! lol

Im sure romeo would like a small friend tho... but still, with some toys, and usually a potty break (or somewhere to go potty) and a WALK when I get home, that would be fine :)

Dont get two dogs unless you really WANT 2 doggies, IMO getting 2 just so one will have company really isnt a good idea. having 2 dogs is a big responsibility, its much harder to find people to dog sit, travel with them, vet care etc..

I don't think my chi would want a "buddy," she seems pretty content laying in the sun by herself. :) I think a lot of it is personal preference. I also agree with Fran, don't get your pet a pet; if you want two dogs, great, otherwise don't do it unless you want it!

I think Armani is happier now that I have Chloe, but for the first two years of his life he was an only child and just fine... there were days he had to be left up to 8 hours or so alone and he was fine... like Fran said I provided a place for him to potty, lots of toys, water and food and he was fine.

Now that I have Chloe I notice he isnt as crazy when I get home because he gets out some of his energy playing with her.

mine can be left alone for a while and he's just fine, even though i dont have a Chi. My friend has one and it's fine to be alone. Never hurts to have a friend though ! :)

Thanks for the responses. I got this mixed up with: *for puppies*,

Usually the guide lines for leaving puppies alone, crated, would be to take how many months old they are and plus one equals how many hours they should be able to stay alone for..

but I am getting an adult. :) I'm fostering this lil guy first, I flew him in last week on a rescue mission from Phoenix!!! :D
