I've only met a couple LHW and one silken so probably not the best to ask. I know silkens are supposed to be more borzoi-like vs whippet. The ones I've met have seemed fairly similar to me.
Ah, ok. Makes sense. I don't have any sighthound experience. I've only seen one whippet and maybe 2 retired racing greyhounds. They're not common here. I love the look of both silkens and LHW though! Beautiful dogs.

The silken I know is just charming. She is bubbly but very regal. Very poised but also a big flirt. Soooo cute too and very smart. I'm not sure how much 'drive' per say but she knows a ton of tricks and has dabbled in various sports. She seems very trainable.

I've never met a LHW, so I couldn't really compare the two. From what I've read, the LHW is a little bit more feisty while Silkens are a little bit more reserved. My understanding is that LHWs originated from a Whippet/Sheltie cross, where Silkens came from LHW stock, Borzois, and pure Whippets. I haven't spent a ton of time around Borzois but from the few I've known, they seem to have a pretty similar temperament. I think Laur summed it up pretty well - poised, regal, but fun and with a silly streak. My breeder has one that charms the pants off of me every time I see her. She reminds me of Rowan a lot. She comes up and just... demands attention. "Here I am, I'm awesome, love me." She'll shove her nose into your hands and just wait all matter-of-fact about how you WILL pet her. She's just like a female Rowan. I want to steal her.

Elrohwen, I want to go to a Welshie party! Awww, spaniel babies :D

I would love to meet some! I never really gave sighthounds a second thought because I never see them in real life, but I hear such great things about silkens and whippets online and I like them more with everything I hear. I hope you get pics!

The Welshie babies were all born on Christmas (two different litters) so maybe early Feb I can work out a visit. Or if we breed Watson this month I can make a side trip to visit puppies since they're all near each other in Jersey.

My late 2014/2015 puppy is growing like crazy! Fennec is 15 weeks old and is turning into a pretty great puppy. We're still getting to know eachother and it hasn't been an instant bond like with a couple of past puppies, but I do really, really like her. She's pretty quick to learn things, is super food and toy motivated, is incredibly brave and confident in everything, and is the sweetest girl. I've yet to see her balk at anything. She loves people and animals of all shapes and sizes, big scary noises outside don't bother her at all, etc. She's super upbeat, bouncy and just full of fun. Still not sure if she's staying or leaving as it's also dependent upon my family and if I'm being honest, I don't need a third dog at this point in my life (I wasn't planning on a permanent puppy until probably 2017), but we'll see what life brings. Her breeder isn't in a hurry for a decision either way. But, she's way more fun and awesome than I thought she'd be.

Ahhh I want her! She's seriously so beautiful and perfect. Cutest pup I've seen in a long time.

Thanks, guys! She is super cute. Kind of awkward right now, but still cute haha.

Yeah, she's still too little for regular sized tennis or chuck it balls but she was pretty thrilled with her find. She found it buried in the snow at my friend's acreage.

Not my puppy (sadly) but I got to hang out with this litter today, plus 16 adult Silkens! So much love. <3 Hopefully these pups are cousins to my future puppy! The sire of this litter is the brother of the bitch I'm hoping for a puppy out of.

edit: half-brother, not full brother. My bad!

Get a Silken so that I can finally meet one! But seriously, Silkens were on my short list. I think there is a group that meets up in Central Park on Saturday mornings. In the end, I decided that I didn't have a great set up for a sighthound and I really wanted a herder-brain.

Yay Toast! So so excited to see him grow up. And also to see pics of him, Squash, and Maisy wrestling in the yard.
Right now he thinks they are slightly sketchy. But he has been through an awful lot of changes in the last 48 hours or so and he's a pretty sharp cookie, so it will come. (Especially now that I've recovered from the whirlwind trip with a good night's sleep, myself, so I have all my calm and patience recharged. :p )
