Honestly the only parenting forums I joined were for parents of twins, so I'm not much help. I did read the 'what to expect' books and liked them though.

The problem with parenting forums is that, well, moms are nuts and extremely judgmental, so it often doesn't go well (I'm no better about some issues like car seat safety though), so be ready for that, lol.

I had my annual physical today and told my doc about our baby plans for 2015. She wrote me a script for prenatals. This is getting real!

33 weeks today! A few neighbors threw a surprise baby shower for me last week. I walker in and just bawled. It still seems so unreal that I have a wiggly baby boy in there after all these years of trying.

I have been so thankful how wonderfully this pregnancy has been. Sure, I'm a little achy, but nothing really worth complaining about. The last two months have been really stressful, balancing work, projects, Dan's had to have surgery and is still recovering from it, but I hope it should calm down a little now.

I've gained about 10 lbs, which is great. I started out not fat, but not skinny either, so my doc is happy with me. People still comment on it all the time... How I should enjoy eating what I want and to eat for two.... Yeah, no. I just need a few hundred calories more a day, not 1300. Baby is measuring just fine, so thank you very much.

The general public/my family and friends all seemed to have plenty to comment about my weight gain and diet during pregnancy. I did gain about 30 lbs, but the doctor suggested I gain around 45-50, due to my low starting weight.

Lillian was born at 6+ lbs, perfectly healthy. You and your doctor know how the baby is doing, if the baby's measuring normal growth, tell everyone else to shut up and eat another burger for you.

I will say, I don't think I ate enough AFTER she was born to maintain breastfeeding. I had always had a low supply and I think part of that was due to my diet. You need to eat a lot and drink a TON of water when you start breastfeeding.

Beautiful British Columbia!!
AHHHHH, Tyler mentioned that we should start trying for a baby 6 months to a year after we get married OMG. I get married in 8 months.

How far in advanced do you start prenatal?? I actually need to start thinking about these things now? Do I also start hoarding baby stuff?? Did you start hoarding baby stuff before trying to get pregnant??

So much to think about.

"Should"? Says who? That's a very personal choice and there's no hard and fast guideline on when having a baby makes the most sense. DH and I will have waited almost 7 years after getting married to have a child and that is working well for us. ;)

I am taking a vitamin with folic acid currently and have for the past 18 months or so. I may switch to something with iron at some point once we are within a month of TTC, but we'll see. I'm also trying to find a supplement with folate instead of folic acid because folate is supposedly more bioavailable. There's no harm in starting them early, though!

I would highly recommend starting your research now - I didn't want to feel rushed when it came to these sorts of decisions, so i started years ago, but have kicked some of the pregnancy related topics up a notch in the last 4 months (we start TTC in February). I'm currently scoping our care providers and supplements as well as tweaking my diet a bit, too.

I have a few baby things, but I'm waiting until the munchkin is conceived to get into things like car seats, cribs, cloth diapers, etc. that could be improved upon between now and baby's birth.

I agree, you have to get a say in this!

But from experience, I wouldn't buy anything until 6 months within the pregnancy or something. Plus you typically get a bunch of things from baby showers anyway (although we didn't have one).

This is advice from someone who tried for years to get pregnant, so please don't take this too much to heart.

While I would not wish this upon anyone, I would refrain from buying baby stuff now. If you do not get pregnant right away, and all forbid, it might take you awhile, looking at that baby stuff in the corner will get your anxiety up and will start, on some point, be very painful to look at.

And just from a practical standpoint, things get recalled/improved all the time. You'll have plenty of time to buy things when you are actually pregnant. Plus, babies do not NEED all the things. You'd be surprised at what I thought I HAD TO HAVE only to pass up on it now, because, quite frankly, it gets to a point where it's just too much.

Agree. There's no right or wrong, but consider how you might feel if things take longer or you suffer any loss. If you're the sort of person who draws strength from having things around you then get buying!!! If you're not.. Hold off.

We waited till after our 20 week scan before we bought anything. And even that felt weird!!!! Even now I feel strange having a nursery full of things and no baby. The paranoia necer fully leaves!!!!!!

As for vitamins no point going mad, they say start taking 12 weeks before you plan to conceive. Took us 10 months to conceive. Just bear that in mind too...!

Ah so full of joy and light lol!

I'm 38 weeks this week!!! Huge and waddling but have had things relatively easy so can't complain :D just waiting now.....

I didn't buy anything until I was 6 months pregnant! I was terrified of miscarrying though. I think I may have bought a few onesies before that, maybe at 4 or 5 months when I had my anatomy scan. ACTUALLY that's kind of a lie. When I was like 4 months pregnant I ordered the car seat and stroller set on amazon because it was a great deal.

I had everything I needed for her when she was born, except those weird little swaddler body bags. She kicked out of every kind of swaddling blanket and only slept well while swaddled. I had seen those blankets in stores and was like "dear god that's so incredibly stupid, who wastes there money on those" and then when she was like 4 days old I was like "I NEED THIS".

I also got mostly everything for my shower (in April, 7 months pregnant)

Lillian was kind of a surprise, so I didn't take prenatals before that. When we tried again I started taking them, but not before we tried.
