Cat Tricks!

Any cat trainers out there? I'm going to try and start teaching the kitties tricks again and am inviting anyone else who has some to join in and post videos. They both already know sit, high five, and spin but that's about it.


I want to teach roll over but to do that I need to get them to lie down and I have thus far been unable to do that. I tried with Neko today and had no luck. He'll sit and when I try to lure him down he just lowers his head to the floor without moving his legs down. If I try to move the treat forward he just gets up and walks with it. Any ideas? I think last time I tried with Willie I started trying to lure him under my slightly bent knee to see if that would get him to go into a down position. I think we made some progress but I eventually gave up.

I haven't done any real training with the Kitty Boy Brothers in a while now. Both Whitacre and Ticheli have been taught Sit, Beg, Shake Hands, and Roll Over. Ticheli also knows Stay, which has come in super handy as springtime makes him pretend to think he's an outdoor cat, but he will stop in his tracks if I give that command. Whitacre was *almost* getting Play Dead (aka "Bang") figured out, but we'll probably have to start over on that with how long the training hiatus has been going on at this point.

I been thinking how I really should have taught them Wait (for when I put down their food, like I did with Morgan). Maybe it's not too late to teach old cats new tricks? LOL

As for tips for Roll Over... uhhhhh... I don't exactly remember how we did it. I'm pretty sure I just did a combo of luring (moving treat in a circle in front of their nose) and occasionally using the other hand to gently knock them over at the same time. Give them a little shove in the right direction. Once Ticheli picked it up, Whitacre figured it out from him, and then I used both of them to teach the dog. :rofl1:
