I don't know what it is. It's on his left thigh, it sticks out, and it's about the size of a grape. It's not tender, although it seemed like it was when we first noticed it a couple days ago - or at least he didn't really want it to be touched. Now I can mess with it a bunch and he just lays there. It seems like it's attached underneath the skin when I try to pinch the skin around it. It also seems like it's attached deeper when I try to move it around. It's more firm than the tissue around it, but I can still squish it. It hasn't gotten any bigger since we noticed it. Caesar was just at the vet a week ago and it definitely wasn't there. We noticed it I think on Sunday. He's acting fine. He runs around and plays and seems to have no pain at all. He's eating well and everything else is normal.

Sooo, should I be worried? (p.s. I'm working 100 hours this week. Even if you think it could be cancer, I would appreciate circumspection - in other words, don't freak me out too much... my psyche can't handle it. I just want to know how quickly I should get him into the vet.)

Tucker had a bump on this thigh, we were concerned because it grew fairly fast. Kayla took him in, and it was a sabaceous (sp?) cyst. Pretty gross (when the vet kind of popped it and cleaned it out) but nothing serious ;)

Did he get a vaccine when he was at the vet? Sometimes it can cause a temporary lump

The vet thinks Cider's original lump may be a sebaceous cyst. It is unattached and within the skin.

I was told Cider's lump prognosis should be good because all the lump are still free moving, none are attached.

Was your last vaccine given where the lump is? If not I'd be vetting as soon as you can get in. Earlier seems to be better for lumps.

my cat had something like that too, and no, it's not serious, just take him to the vet when you get the opportunity

he has an appointment on Monday :D they said it's normal to have a reaction to the rabies vaccine, but that it should be pea sized, not grape sized.. and it's definitely grape sized at least.

Even a grape sized lump isn't uncommon. Leo has gotten them before from his vaccinations and they feel just like you described. Do you remember the location they gave the vaccine at?

Luna has grape-sized lumps when she gets vaccines. Now I just give her asparin ASAP after the vet appointment, and it seems to keep the lumps (and soreness, she has terrible soreness) down.

That probably also explains why it WAS painful to touch, but isn't anymore... because the muscle was sore from the shot but it's healing faster than the injection site. That's the way Luna's are too.
