Maybe you could explain what you mean more? Not saying it was your fault, cause it wasn't. It's the darn computers, but if you maybe explained what your talking about in a little more detail we might be able to understand you in the first try.

Ive just recently gotten a new pup boxer/pitbull mix and its very hard to find out the general temperate for this "breed'' since it isnt certified byt the AKC so if anyone has any info on this Breed please reply.
i also dont agree with getting a puppy, be it a pedigree or cross breed without first researching that breed/breeds you seem to have got a pup and are now looking to find out what its temperament will be

Bullox never said what breed of dog was being trained, or that the trainer supplied the dog from one of his litters.

Im not familliar with K9 training, is that something the police force in general does or do they contract out to trainers who specialise that training?

I do agree getting a pup without knowwing about the breed/breeds is a bad idea and could lead to trouble.

I know for a fact that alot (75% or so) of the Police and RAF sniffer and Canine response dogs in the UK come from rescue shelters, so the odds are that a few of them are mixed breeds! It doesn't say anywhere that mixed breeds are less intelligent and therefore why shouldn't the K9 units have mixed breed dogs?!

I think some of you have had a derogitary opinion of Bullboxer from the start and therefore you are thinking the worst of him/her. Bullboxer came on asking a simple question and it has all got a bit blown out of proportion!
Maybe Bullboxer should have researched the breed before getting the pup but now it's beside the point, and He/She is trying to get help now which we should applaude him/her for! This after all is a forum of dog lovers and as such we should be helping to make this pups life a good one not shouting Bullboxer down at every oppertunity! We are at real risk of failing this pup if we don't become a little more tolerant!!

I understand completely the anger and outrage people feel at dog fighting because I feel the same way intirely!! But there has been no mention of this dog being faught!!

We have to take into account that some people (including myself) find it hard to express what they really mean and it sometimes comes out wrong and gives people the total wrong impression about us!

I don't want to offend anyone but this is how I feel! :D

Law enforcement doesn't train their own dogs - they do contract that out or purchase trained dogs from individual, professional breeder/trainers, so yes, what Bulloxer is saying about watching someone he knows train K9s is entirely valid. There's a trainer/breeder in the next county from me. At one point I was considering trying to get a German Shepherd that had flunked the training when one came available. Not all of the dogs that start training are suitable for law enforcement work and often they are re-homed with responsible owners.

Now that we know Bulloxer a little better, let's give him some benefit of the doubt before jumping in. We don't always understand what he's saying, so why don't we ask him to explain better before putting him on the defensive? Some people communicate better by speech, and some by writing, so we need to make some allowances here since we can't speak directly and catch vocal inflections and body language. ;)

maybe its a cse of it working differently in the uk then because over here the police trqin their own dogs, they even go to the rescue kennels and choose themmselves.
i did not say that the police wouldnt use cross bred dogs, of course they do.

I'm afraid we have a lot of law enforcement personnel who aren't capable of handling a dog, let alone training one! In most places here in the U.S., a human officer has to go through testing to qualify to be a partner to a canine officer. If they pass, then they are paired with a dog that matches up best with them and both human and canine officers go through more training together.

Bulloxer. I'd love to hear more about your new pup and see some pics if you have them. Have you had puppies before? They can be a lot of work but SO worth it. :D
