They won't know exactly until Monday, when the tests come back. The vet thinks it is either an aggressive systemic fungal infection --- or cancer.

He's not eating, not even peanut butter, and his breathing is labored. If it's cancer, the vet thinks it has spread quickly. We're hoping it's an infection, and even then, one that widespread is difficult to eradicate.

Ben has experience with a fungal infection that his parents' dobe got at one point from a tree they had dug up and removed from their yard.
The dog got digging into the remaining tree removal debris and kicked up a bunch of fungus that got into his lungs.

Is this something like what Buddy has?

I do not know why some creatures are born with such beautiful souls and they have to suffer so much. Ear rubs, gentle t-touchs and healing ~~~~~~vibes~~~~~~~ for Buddy. Worries right along with Buddy's Parents.
