Rory is a boxer mix that we know for sure . My dh got him when he was a young pup and he knows that the mom was a boxer . The sire on the other hand is somewhat of a mystery . He did see a picture of him , he was white with large black patches , looked like a boxer but more stocky and had a docked tail . Rory is around 80lbs albeit he's about five pound overweight (we're working on it) , has a much thicker build than our boxers . His coat is short but thick , lots of undercoat and sheds like crazy . Personality wise , he's very stubborn and a bit bossy .

We're thinking American Bulldog possibly , what do you think ?

Alapaha Blue Blooded Bull dog? They may have docked the tail because the mom has a docked tail. People do that out of standard a lot for mixed breeds. I definitely think you're looking in the right direction with the bully guess though.

AmBull seems as good as any. Like Izzy said, some people dock tails to go with what the mom is, or for some other random reason.

I once met a Border Collie with a docked tail and nothing I could say could convince the person that BC's are *not* a traditionally docked breed.

Actually a while back on the bc board they had a thread with border collies with natural bobs. Not typical but several people knew of bobbed bcs.

The OP already mentioned they know he is part Boxer. That Boxer mix look can easily be misindentified as another breed. It's also possible he's just a porrly bred Boxer in general.

ABs are not known for having an undercoat, especially one that sheds an awful lot.

The dad could've been an AB as some will dock an ABs tail although for what purpose I have no idea. Some people are just silly.

Part American Bulldog sounds possible though he could just be a purebred, though not very well bred, Boxer

a lot of bulldogs get docked because they damage their tails from wagging it so hard and hitting things. if it doesn't heal up or due to constant recurrent injury they will dock it (this happens w/ other breeds too, a very good reason to ask before you attack someone for docking).
