Here's what I'd like to know: How do you Brits and Canadians celebrate Boxing Day? And just exactly what does it celebrate? I've read a few insipid explanations (undoubtedly written by people who didn't have a life-long history with the holiday) and they were so deadly dull they didn't even stick in my mind. And I wonder if it's celebrated differently on different sides of the Atlantic? So, how about enlightening me? Please? :)

For us, boxing day=recovery day!! We see both of our families on Christmas day, so it's a long day of driving, eating and visiting. It's hard on the girls because we're in and out all day, so on boxing day, we curl up on the couch with the dogs, and watch whatever DVD's we got for Christmas. This year was a "Band of Brothers" marathon, and it was great!

My son-in-law explained it as sounding like another Christmas day. They 'box' gifts and visit relatives. It may just be his family's tradition, maybe there are variations. I'm not remembering all the details, but I did think it sounded wonderful. :) (He is from Birmingham, England) I know he considers it a big holiday. They also have the entire week off from work.....we should do that here!

Good description Milo! I've always associate Boxing Day with boxing up the wrong size or wrong gifts and returning them LOL.
