I don't understand how breeding not the worst Pit Bulls is more acceptable than breeding good sport mixes with proven parents. That actually kind of confuses me.

I didn't know game was a term married to a dog that has fought in a pit. Learn something new every day.
the exact meaning is contextual. w/ dogs bred specifically for matching in the western styles, they must be matched to be proven game. for working terriers jrt, fell, etc, it means they'll continue to work the game (must be big enough & rough enough to be a fair match like otter or coon) despite severe possibly permanent injury. in both contexts dead game means the dog will die rather than quit the fight. for sight & scent hounds the bar is lower but still requires that they be willing to endure pain & injury to catch/kill the game. for herding dogs they have to ignore unusual levels of pain/injury to continue working. my dad's heeler is a good example despite a jawbreaking kick he continued to move a string of horses.

My best friend's boyfriend is actually Chris Brown's back up dancer, and I've been to his house & hung out with him. I LOVED his dogs! I have pictures of them on my Sidekick. I didn't know he bred them, but they are nice, game, athletic Pit Bulls with amazing personalities, love everyone/everything... and they're very well trained. ^_^ I think there are far worse things happening to this breed, in the millions. I'm sure they will get wonderful homes, and it's great to see a health guarantee.

He definitely isn't fighting his dogs or anything, he's no DMX. The 3 he had got along perfectly, were playing and sleeping together.

Let's understand one thing: You will never know if a "pit bull" is "game" unless it is tested in the pit. Game dogs are not a dime a dozen. They are much more rare than people imagine them to be. Remember, the gamest dog in the match wasn't always the winner. There's a difference.

Second, I see happy, loving, well-trained "pit bulls" every day. It doesn't mean they should be bred.

I'm not vocal about the point that I'd rather see the true American Pit Bull Terrier die out than be turned into a shell of its former self. There are plenty of off-shoots and close relations (AmStaff, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Bull Terrier, American Bully, and American Bulldog), that one could put his/her interest in those dogs and leave the APBT alone.

Big Boi is nothing but a puppy peddler of deformed, disgusting dogs. Chris Brown is just a joke, who has decided to joing the ranks of celebrity puppy peddler.

Silly question...but why does it have to be a fight? I think of "game" in the Pit Bull sense as tenacious, never giving up, going back for more against all odds no matter the consequence. Are there no other methods to show this in a dog (meant for fighting) besides fighting? Or is it that there are methods that come close (enough), so that is what is used to test whether or not a dog is "game" (enough) to warrant being bred/calling itself an APBT?

Didn't you get Kai from a BYB? Well, there you go... I'm sure you didn't get any health guarantee, pedigree, etc. Based on that, Chris Brown is a better breeder than the one you got your dog from. And the MAJORITY of Pit Bull breeders in the world! The only difference is that he's a celebrity, who people love to pick on. I'm not saying his dogs are qualified, or that I would buy one of those puppies ever, or that I support the breeding. But it doesn't outrage me, that's ALL I was saying. His dogs are well cared for and I'm sure these puppies are, too. It's just that people are so quick to judge based on a snippet of information, which actually makes him sound like an ok breeder! Awful breeders do not bother with health guarantees on their puppies.

I know very well how many Pit Bulls there are in shelters. I have fostered several Pit Bull puppies, and one adult Pit Bull. I'm pretty sure CHRIS BROWN's puppies will not end up in shelters.
No, I didn't get Kai from a BYB, my parents did. They care less about the politics of the dog world. I whole heartly agree that the people who Kai came from NEVER should have bred dogs in the first place. What makes Chris Brown breeding better than Kai's? What exactly is Chris Brown doing that is better than the millions of other pit bull breeders? Where on the site says he health test his dogs? Just because there is a "health guaranteed" doesn't mean he health tested them. Is it because the dogs have papers? So does the smooe moe down the street selling his pups have papers. Will he keep up with his puppies? If the owner can no longer care for their dogs, will he accept them back? Is he going to give his pups to anyone with money? His website actually go against him being anywhere near a good breeder, since it has nothing utterly nothing on the dogs themselves or the homes he is looking for, just the price.

They actually just updated the website today and made it even WORSE, if that was possible, than it was yesterday; There are now pictures of the parents of the supposed litter (again, I still believe there are TWO litters here being represented and sold as one litter, see above), who are mediocre dogs at best, and a drop-down menu with an "ADD TO CART" button once you select a puppy.

What exactly are you basing this on? With the clearly demonstrated link between animal abuse and domestic abuse, I'm not sure there's any reason to think he will give two sh*ts about any of his puppies once he's got their purchase price in his hands.

I noticed that too SevenSins. Glad it wasn't just me. A few of those pups look nothing like the others AND they look older....

I don't understand.

I feel that there are many assumptions flying around here, based on a small paragraph of information. Not going to get worked up about it.
I don't assume the parents of these puppies are poor quality, I know they're poor quality.

I don't assume the puppies are being sold irresponsibly, I know they're being sold irresponsibly.

Sometimes, a "small paragraph of information," as you put it, is enough to give away the story's entire plot.

I actually can see that quite easily. Puppy impulse bought from a Chris Brown fan ("OMG! A CHRIS BROWN PUPPY!") and then a while later they realize they can't handle/don't want the dog.

I have to say I'm sorry, Erica. I know it looks like you're totally being attacked here. I adore you, and that is NOT my intention. I just see so many red flags on his website and even if his dogs are "better" than most, I don't think it's an an excuse to defend his breeding practices. The majority of "pit bulls" in shelters are lovely, sweet dogs bred because their parents were lovely, sweet dogs.
I honestly think a middle ground BYB is worse than a puppy mill in some ways. Puppy mills have gotten publicity, and many people know how to avoid them. What most people want is "a nice dog with papers" and the BYB is the prime supplier- and the hardest to educate about vs. reputable breeder.

it is the ONLY way to consistantly prove gameness. no other animal besides another dog will carry the fight to the other dog. back in the days of bear baits & the like, the other animals fought out of survival. matching dogs though is the only event where both sides WANT to be there. in western styles the match ends when one dog quits (or the handler takes up his dog to preserve it's life or health). it's a contest to see which dog wants to more.

interesting...

http://www.aceshowbiz.com/news/view/00050044.html

Apparently he's denying this and his mother was the one who broke the news on her Twitter account. "CHRIS BROWN PUPPIES FOR SALE, his mother/manager, Joyce Hawkins tweeted". However, his "representative denied that it was a business, saying the singer sold the seven pitbull pups so that they can find good homes." Also "A publicist for Brown later released a statement to straighten things up, saying the puppies were part of a litter birthed by his family's dogs back home in Virginia. "He loves animals, especially dogs," said the rep." My recommendation is that Brown fire his mother and stop helping his family sell dogs, if they need a celebrities help, they shouldn't be breeding.

His mother must be very handy with making websites quickly.

You know, I can go down to the friendly neighborhood Pet land and pick up a pup with a health guarantee and pedigree--that doesn't mean squat.

Chris Brown is just another in a long line of idiots breeding dogs that shouldn't be reproducing. It may not be the "worst thing" that's ever happened to the breed, but it's operations like his that are part of the reason that there ARE worse things happening.

And frankly, I don't like the idea of APBTs being associated with a violent woman beater in the minds of the general public.

I also feel like, and maybe this is wrong but hey.. I have more understanding of regular old family BYBs.
They do things wrong and yea, they are just breeding pets. but it could easily be said that they don't have the money to do things right or they are breeding these puppies because they could use the money.
It's still wrong in many ways, but I suppose I understand it. They love their pets and wanted to make puppies and didn't know or didn't have the funds for expensive health testing, proving etc..

This guy has MORE THAN ENOUGH money to do it right and certainly KNOWS enough to know what good breeders do or has the money to get someone to tell him what they are supposed to do.. but CHOOSES not to care!

One of the things that is sad is that Big Boi started off with standard, decent looking UKC APBTs from Ruthella Cash. I remember him with APBTs before I ever heard of Outcast and realized who he was.
