Poor dog in a cage with two dogs who are hurting
her :(

**crossposting**

This beagle mix female was found stray. She is around 3 years old. She is in a very high kill pound that gasses. Right now she is in a pen with 2 pitt mixes that were attacking her on Friday. They had her pinned in the corner and were trying to mount her and attack her. She was yelling and squealing. Myself and another volunteer yelled and kicked at the pen until they released her. She is very scared and we think she is in heat. She is very small as you can see from the pictures. It looks like she may have had some puppies at one time too. She will be locked up at the pound all weekend and the pound is closed Monday for holiday. This poor girl is going to have to fend for herself all 3 days. I tried to get them to let me take her but she has to be hold for 3 days. Please help this girl get out as soon as possible.

Wait, you mean this dog is in the same kennel with the same dogs for 3 days without any human interaction?

OMG :(.

That's horrid. Can't they move her out into a different pen?

Couldn't she get pregnant?!

I know :(
It does not make sence, they leave the dogs for 3 days?
no one even comes in to feed them?

I don't think the volunteers themselves would have much
choice in which pen the dog is in, clearly they told someone
because they where trying to get her out before the 3 day
hold.

i'm sure someone comes to feed them once a day.

But if you KNOW they are trying to kill that dog, there's no excuss to leave them in the same pen.

/end rant.

Agreed, I am just cross posting though, I don't live in this state.

Unfortunately a lot of the people higher ups in shelters do not
seem to care sometime. If the volunteers just decided on their
own to put the dog in another pen then most shelters would
kick them out and they could not help the dogs with vetting,
pulls, etc

This is a KILL pound and they are almost always full. They also post on their petfinder page that some dogs are adopted, but in reality they are PTS.
She would probably be moved to another cage with other dogs in it as well because the dogs are typically caged in groups...
Some of the volunteers said that a someone went to get her, but the pound could not adopt her out becuase there's a holding period for the owner to reclaim her.

That is so sad. Very upsetting to think of all the time in the cage with the others being attacked.

I am local to there and have been helping with this fight to get them to change. I was just there the other day and it was disgusting. and I pulled a dog from there maybe a month ago. She was in a pen with a male dog and a preg female who was about to deliver pups anyday. Well the morning the rescue lady went to pull the dog for me they made her wait like an hour and they told her all the pups were "stillborn" that night. Well she was still IN the pen with the other two dogs. My dog I pulled had bite wounds all over her. So we assume that they were not "stillborn" and the reason the rescue lady had to wait an hour is because they were hosing down a bloody pen. There are sooo many horror stories about that place that I wouldnt even know where to start.

I live in the south and it is amazing to know how many shelters just like that one are in existance. I volunteer at a well-publicized no kill shelter in Atlanta and they make beyond poor choices too. That's why I stared the "Venting about Rescue" thread, it's one of few things that help me feel more sane about the messed up world of shelters/rescue!! I wish you luck in this heartbreaking situation.

I live in the south too(more southern than Atlanta) and have NEVER seen that before. If my shelter did ANY thing like that I would be livid and would do something to stop it.

If they are waiting to see if an owner is going to claim her shouldn't they try to keep her safe for 3 days? What if the owners show up and their dog is dead because of the shelter? Do they not care that they could be sued for wrongful death???
