Beagle Problems

Hello,
I am new to this site, but I have a beautiful, 6 month old Beagle puppy. She is a joy, but she is having problems sleeping all night.

My husband is alergic to dogs, so Baby can't sleep in our room, but she has a nice kennel. I take her out right before we put her to bed and she sleeps fine for about 5 hours. Then she has to go to the bathroom and doesn't want to go back to sleep. She whines and barks for quite a while. When she finally does get back to sleep it's only for a few hours.

My husband and I are getting quite sleep deprived by this time. I think she might be lonely, but there's nothing I can do. She can't be in our room, it's the one room in the house that is dog free so my husband doesn't go crazy.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm at whits end. Help.

Try giving her an old shirt or something that has your smell on it to sleep with, and also try the old fashioned ticking clock trick. Most of the time the steady ticking will lull a lonely pup to sleep, and something soft with your smell on it to curl up with should reassure her further.

I second this , and unfortunatly sometimes the only way for a puppy to learn to be quiet is not letting her whines get what she wants - this would probably make it worse.

Get another beagle. Dogs are sociable animals and you'd be amazed at the difference in personality and "wants" if they have a playmate with them.

This is true, but just wanted to add that you should make sure you know what your getting yourself into. Raising two puppies at once isn't recomended, so an adult dog is my best bet. Consider rescueing one from you local shelter Also, while having a companion might help, you could end up with two problem dogs
