That's awesome to hear! My dogs are both idiots so baby will be handed off to hubby while I'm handling. He's so open to it, I'm really hopeful that it will work well with our routine and we can do it.

Do you not have fire ants there? I would not be able to put a baby on the ground, even with a blanket, here. It's very encouraging to hear that multiple people have done it in your club though :) Ours is a pretty....non-kid friendly club but since the Founder/President/Training Director/Helper is the one having a child, I am finding people are a little more open minded hahaha

The 3yo can hike 3-5 mile trails?! I was thinking the same thing in regards to the stroller...bring it to training/outings as an alternative if wearing isn't working for whatever reason. Also, I melt here in GA for summer, so I'm going to need some options. I'm a MI girl...
We don't seem to have any active nests on the training field, though they are around. I think one mom in our club used a giant Kuranda bed as her kid's 'place', so that could be an option I suppose. LOL

Our TD's wife was one of the first in our club to have a baby - we had a few toddlers before that, though they stayed at home as babies for the most part since only one parent was involved in the sport. There have been jokes about a kennel run when they all show up at the same time. ;)

And yep, they worked up to it of course, and she does still choose to ride on some of the hikes, but she can do it. We've gone on hikes of 7ish miles and she walks at least half of them.

Tula is on our short list, I haven't seen anyone complain that they don't fit/wear well. Can I get the standard and make it into an infant/newborn one with the insert? Am I reading that right? Jessie - this is aimed at you too ;)

Again, couldn't enjoy hearing this more! :D
You can use the infant insert to carry from birth - we didn't get ours until Falon was 7-8 months old so I can't vouch for how comfortable or easy it is to use. I think SSC's are a little harder to use when babies are tiny because they're so bulky BUT that's totally my opinion and lots of people use them successfully.

We totally used resource trading with Falon. It works beautifully. NO used to be super effective but we're getting into that testing boundaries phase so we're having to physically redirect her a lot. It seriously is puppy raising - we took all the dangerous stuff out of the living room and I filled all the drawers that she likes to get into with her stuff. I call them project toys. :p

ETA: I was going to mention the heat thing - babywearing in a wrap or an SSC is really freaking hot. They make gauze wraps (I have one that I would sell you cheap if you want it) and they're better but you're still basically strapping a tiny furnace to your body. Hiking packs are somewhat better because the kid is up and off you. The main times we've used the stroller are trips to the zoo in the middle of summer - I think I'd expire in Georgia heat with a baby on me.

i know everyone has their own opinions, but I think holding your baby or "wearing" early on is important, but then depending one how quickly your child is developing, there is a point when I think it can be too much and definitely needs to balanced with floor time.

Babies have windows of development like everything else and they're all a bit different that's for sure. That's why milestones are kind of neat to compare to, but they really don't mean a whole heck of a lot either. I think the only way to know is to know, watch and read your baby.

But I see a fair amount of new mothers and they are very loving and caring and thoughtful with their children, but some of them don't see the ground till they're 40lbs it seems. I think the first 4-6 months depending on the baby is great and fine for rarely putting them down, but for neurologic development and maturation I think baby wearing can definitely be overdone. It's important for them to have that stimulation they can only get by supporting themselves in pretty innate ways to get full development of, muscle, PNS and brain. It's kind of why I'm not a fan of jumpers or walkers because they promote positions and activities that structurally and neurologically they aren't ready for yet.

but like everything it needs to be balanced. They can't be set on the floor and forgotten about till they go to bed at night either, but after 6 months the importance of a child being able to learn to support itself and move and get their hands on things and learn to explore, investigate and have all that proprioceptive stimulation is vital to full brain development.

Ok, that's what I wondered. We're going to be ordering that for ourselves as well so I'll make sure to order the insert. What kind of wrap is the gauze one? Do I need to learn how to tie it? LOL Gotta be honest, one of the biggest draws to ssc is that I don't have to be able to tie it! I'm interested though, I know you could help me :) Yeah, that's why I wanted to keep the stroller too - as a backup option in the GA heat....or at least that's the plan right now.

Yes, I agree. Balance is important in all things....and moderation I suppose.

Huh, I'd never though about jumpers or walkers at all in those terms. We didn't have any on our list but mostly because they seem like something "extra" and we have so many "needs" that I'm not putting much on the extras list LOL

We aren't going to have a nursery I don't think. Baby will be with us in our room and will have a nook for crib, drawers for stuff, etc. but by the time they need their own room, it's likely that we'll be moving to a bigger house anyway, so it just seems silly to go though all that work twice. Maybe we're naive? LOL

I don't think you need one.

We were in the middle of moving so for first few months just had him in a bassinet in our room and when he went to his room after we moved I would not call it a nursery lol. I still haven't painted it lol.

Keep in mind babies come early lol! I had planned to throw it all together when we moved a month before he was due and that's when he was born.

I don't think a nursery is "necessary" for a baby by any means. We have one (we'll be here a few more years) and he does sleep in it but I've been doing some research on cots and bassinets and I think he'll be moving into our bedroom before long (at least nights).

I mean, at this stage, a nursery is more for the parents than for anyone else... Like a baby cares about matching furniture or sheets and most likely, they want to be with you anyway.

No, I know it's not necessary but we have the extra room and we want to. Baby will be staying in our room in a rock n play bassinet at first. But I'm looking forward to having a designated room to put the stuff we're already receiving.

DH is looking at buying paint this weekend and get started. :)

I am planning on doing our nursery very gender neutral and not too wildly baby-centric. I want something that can transition easily to a toddler or young child room. So I'm planning on using a full size dresser from the beginning (big enough to use as a changing table too!), and other things that are more common in a toddler room-ie, book case, shelving/storage units, and I probably won't put a rocker in there. I can't really see myself using one that much, and most people pull it out of the nursery once their kid is one or two.

I love rockers and that's the one thing I really wanted and didn't get. I'd still take one! Even a Cracker Barrel porch type one. They are just soothing to me. A friend had a glider that would put me to sleep in seconds, not sure that was the point though:p

Haha you just described what we have going! Our colors are turquoise and grey. A full size natural colored dresser (asked for crib in same color). A small corner bookcase, and I want to get some sort of storage something. :-D

I am loving grey and chevrons. I think I'm going to do grey and sage green. I really want to go ahead and paint that room and our kitchen. Both need done :)

We had a nice nursery painted yellow with animal stickers but ended up moving to rent so they moved to a boring white room. Their rooms now are pretty boring still (just some pictures on the wall but yeah, some 'artwork' on the walls too ) but we might paint this Summer or something.

They didn't move to the nursery until they were 5 months or something though and were sleeping through the night.
