Be honest now. You might love them in all shapes and sizes. You might not.

I could love any dog. If you gave me the ugliest little thing, I'd still love it. I'd probably still call it ugly though :p

I don't think there's any breeds I find totally repulsive or infact UGLY, but there are some traits of some dogs I dislike.

And I'm going to be honest ;) And it's just my preference.

I don't really like toller eyes. They look piggy to me. There I said it. I feel better for getting that off my chest. I like them as a whole. The ones I've met, I liked the look of, I just think they have piggy eyes.

I don't like deep chested dobes either. The ones that look like a barrel. And I think they look funny with cropped ears, like they just want to breathe and relax, but they have tape stretching their foreheads back into a perma-shock look.

I think that's the lot.

They don't offend me too much thinking about it.

Schnauzers. I just don't like the look of them, and all the ones I've met (with the exception of one) have been kind of annoying to me.

I also don't like the look of most terriers (Cairns, Westies, etc). I think they're cute as babies, and they are soooo sweet, but I just don't like the overall look of them as adults.

I don't like the general look of Collies or Shelties. However, there's a "pet" look (for lack of a better term...) in Shelties, that I think is adorable. My grandmother has one like that, and Brattina's Bailey has that look. She's really cute, and I'd totally own a sheltie that looked like that.

I don't really care for hounds either. Beagles and bassets are super cute, but I don't know if I'd ever want to own one. I mostly don't like the look of the plotts, or bigger hounds. I think in theory, Bloodhounds are cute, but I don't find them attractive (I can't explain it right...) and wouldn't want to own one.

I also really dislike the look of sharpeis. For some reason, even the show-quality ones look sick or something, and mangy. Their hair is sooo pokey. My neighbor had one, and it was the CUTEST.PUPPY.EVER. but was an ugly adult.

I'm not gonna lie, I don't dig the hairless dogs. I think they are adorable in their own way but it's just not a look I prefer. Poodles... I just don't like their hair. I can't think of any dog that makes me go like "OMG sooo ugly!" though.

Extreme brachycephalic dog breeds - they just don't appeal to me at all. The "not as extreme" brachycephalic breeds I don't mind though :p

Hairless dogs. As embarrassing as this is... they kinda creep me out, I don't like the feel of the "no fur/hair" I think the Powderpuff Chinese Crested are cute though :D

English Toy Spaniels.... their faces bother me.

Pekingese... though I understand and respect WHY they are built that way.

if there's a purpose behind a dog's physical characteristics, I find it hard to see it as repulsive.

This thread makes me nervous lol.

Not the biggest fan of long coats... they don't fit with my ideal lol but I can still appreciate a dog with long hair. I don't really like the way long haired salukis look like they have pig tails... I don't like pig tails.

I don't really like tails that stick straight up, a la the terriers and gundogs.

Show cut poodles not really my thing.

I guess... shih tzus and lhasa apsos and maltese and bichons, and english toy spaniels (sizzle reminded me)... I don't like that look particularly.

I don't like those really round buggy bulgy eyes that you see a lot in toy breeds. Unless the dog is looking really hard to one side, I don't want to see the whites of their eyes (or the third eyelid).

My ideal dogs look "natural" to me... svelte, a more gradual stop, a decent tuck, long tail that at least somewhat follows the shape of the spine, long legs, a discernible neck of decent length, fur not longer than 1.5 inches (I want to see the dog's body under there!). Prick ears are my favorite but then I do like greyhounds and labs. Sharp or intelligent expression.

But I mean, they're still dogs. Even if a dog isn't beautiful to me it can still be cute. I can appreciate just about whatever look a dog has going.

I didn't used to like collies- especially smooth- and now I think they're gorgeous! Same with chihuahuas- but now I really like their look - I think Jessie changed my mind on that. I used to hate the look of greyhounds/whippets, but like them both a lot now. Funny how you change your preference. I used to like beefier wide faced dogs- now I like skinnier skinny snout dogs.

I'm not a huge fan of irish wolfhounds (and why is it when I always see the out walking the owner ALWAYS has two? haha its odd!). They scare me a little and remind me of the hyenas in the lion kind... haha i think just their hair and body type.

Also, cocker spaniels... but I think the only reason for that is a lot of the ones I've known have been badly bred and don't seem the healthiest - it can depend on the grooming too. With that said, cocker spaniel puppies are crazy cute.

Also I'm not a huge fan of when you can't see a dogs eyes usually- so really long haired dogs aren't my faves.

Yeah there's a couple. Biggest one is shih tzus. I just don't care for any of them looks-wise. They remind me of ewoks... Most the little floofy kinds of dogs just aren't my thing anyways. I don't do bearded breeds either.

Neo's are another. Too many wrinkles and drool. I actually feel kind of horrible saying this but I was literally repulsed by one I saw at a show when it was walking around.

Pekes, English toys, pugs with the exception of Izzie, whom I love :p, Chins, any of the extreme brachy breeds. Just not my thing. Actually other than chins, cresties, paps, min pins, and IGs, I'm not a fan of the general toy dog build and overly done head pieces. *ducks and hides* Sorry!

Collies look strange to me, but I think it's because I'm used to shelties and they're similar enough, but different enough to throw me off. So collies kind of look like 'wrong' shelties to me. I know a collie person that feels the same way about shelties too, which I thought was kind of funny.

and I just hate the feel of any of the dogs with 'hair' coats. They just don't feel clean to me at all. It's hard to describe but I have never petted a dog with a poodly type coat that doesn't feel icky to me. It's a texture thing, I think. I love havanese temperament wise but could not have the coat.

I am actually pretty picky to be honest, looks wise. I like lean breeds with a pretty athletic build. I like really smooth coats and feathered coats. I like prick ears or semi prick and a decent length muzzle. My biggest gripe with paps is their somewhat domed heads and shorter muzzles. I would not have a breed with a shorter muzzle than them and theirs is about 1/3 the length of the total skull.

Whew that was long. :p

Oh and I like toy sized hairless dogs like cresties but not a fan of large hairless dogs. I'm not sure why there's a difference but I love cresties and did not like the look of the standard Xolo I met.

I know what you mean Laurelin. I hate that greasy feel you get off some wirey dogs.

I like a nice smooth coat. Finer than a labs. Bodhi length :p

I think she is my ideal dog really lol I wish I could clone her :(

There are dogs that I think are BEAUTIFUL
and dogs that I think are CUTE

and then the rest there are the "AWW ITS SO UGLY ITS CUTE!!" lol they tend to wiggle their way into my heart

The only ones that really freak me out are those badly bread cresties with the tongues sticking out.. yuck.

Yeah! This. I think this is how I feel, but just didn't know how to put it. :p There are different kinds of cute, beautiful, and ugly. There are some breeds (like neos, shar peis, and shnauzers) that I just wouldn't own, but in their own way, they ARE cute. Just not something I see and say "I want that dog".

ETA: However, I wouldn't have seen a picture of Chloe and said she was the kind of dog I wanted, but she's PERFECT for me personality wise. And I think she's the cutest thing ever, now that I know her. :p

See, there are a lot of traits that are impractical for me (droolers with long, pendulous lips and jowls) that I still find ADORABLE. I'm pretty much with Fran on this one, I can find most dogs cute.

If I had to choose breeds that I'm just not mad about looks-wise... I don't like brachy breeds. Love their personalities, but I don't like their looks. Same goes for almost all of the over-done toy breeds. I really like the looks of Papillons and Cavaliers, but a lot of other toy breeds have very prominent eyes or other imbalanced features that I just don't care for.

Oh I forgot I do like the look of cavs too.

Paps are the most exaggerated I'd have in most aspects (head shape, coat...) . I do like their looks quite a bit, but there's other breeds I honestly find prettier. Paps are not a breed I'd have ever chosen based on looks but now that I have them, I think they're very pretty. Just a little bit 'fancy' looking for me still, thought they're still pretty practically built for such a small dog.

Lauren I love how paps look both frilly and beautiful, and yet athletic and healthy at the same time. That's pretty neat for a tiny dog.

Ps. Lauren, sorry to hijack, but is this a pap? It's my friends dog- she says its an improperly bred pap- like 17 pounds. Wasn't sure if you thought it was more of a mix- just curious- would never correct her if not :)

I'm not a fan of most English bulldogs, their will be the occasionally one that looks okay though (like the one in that pupperoni commercial). American Bullies (you know the hippo looking ones posed with soda cans under their chest) are in the same boat.

A lot of dogs with hairy faces (like a Shih Tzu) I don't like the looks of.

Really wrinkled dogs like Shar Peis and Neos are unattractive to me. However most Shar Pei mixes (with very few wrinkles) I find EXTREMELY attractive.

I also am not a fan of hairless dogs most of the time. I have seen a few cresties I find really nice looking, it all has to do with skin. The gray skin freaks me out. But some of the ones with dark gray and pink skin I can like the looks of.

Pugs can go either way, the ones I don't like the looks of are the ones whose eyes look like they are about to pop out of their head, otherwise they are fine.

I mean there are probably individuals in every breed that might not look great to me. I've seen pitties I think are ugly, Great Danes, Boxers, etc. who as a while I like the looks of but some not so much.

Generally I find dogs that are handsome/beautiful more attractive than cute dogs. I remember when looking for a dog mom would frequently say "he's not cute" and all I could think is "yeah but he's GORGEOUS". I think Dobermans are some of the most attractive dogs because they look so regal.

However regardless of looks I can easily fall in love with any of them.
