Are PCs cooler than Macs?

the little old G4 Mit and Nikki sent me SMOKED his brand new $2200 laptop ;)
Who pays $2200 for a laptop anymore? Well, except Mac buyers ;) Even the fully decked out "business class" ones we buy for work cost under $1500 the last I looked.

I also understand that my experience with Macs seems to be outside the norm, but every Mac I have ever used is perceptibly slower than any other PC in the room. :dunno:

Eddie, the Dell EXPERT who is my mom's friend's son helped him order it  He needed something that would accommodate running an earlier version of Windows to use an older version of AutoCADD (the *updates* are well over $2000 and totally unnecessary for the work he uses it for). That's the money it took to get one that would -- theoretically -- do what he needed. And it didn't. Of course.

The fully decked out Mac -- with more than one USB (yah, can you believe that expensive Dell only had ONE USB port?) -- and the Fusion software was $500 LESS.

I don't really care about the cool factor, lol . . . but the difference in the frustration is totally a factor ;)

Not to mention my mother's been totally punked as far as having anymore input into computer purchases, ever. Did I mention she can't even remember how to open a new tab on the internet? Or that she won't use an e-mail account?

That doesn't make sense, Renee. I could throw Windows 2000 on my brand new PC laptop if I really wanted to, and it only cost $500 for a pretty powerful little machine. I mean, heck, that's what the world did when Vista came out and people decided they didn't like it. People would buy new computers and install XP instead. The federal government agency I worked for does it as well. They don't support Windows 7 or Vista, so they install XP on every new computer, laptop or desktop.

I think the problem is with your "expert"...

Oh, there's definitely a problem with the "expert" Cali, lol. He's a pretty typical Windows trained "expert." He admins the computers at the local juco now, too. What's really funhy, though, is after all the "oh, Microsoft is GOD" posturing . . . he now carries an iPad and he and his two little girls all have iPhones and iPods. :rofl1:

I started on DOS machines, and Windows was always clumsy and slow to me after that ;) I can honestly say I have loathed Microsoft machines from the very beginning. It had nothing to do with switching to Apple -- switching to Apple had everything to do with wanting to leave Microsoft.

There are plenty of people who are actually good at modifying and tinkering with windows. It's not that hard or complex to do it, and it's hardly clumsy or slow if done properly. I started on a DOS machine too, and was writing minor programs to it in elementary school with my Dad's help. It's awesome that there is the ability to do that, in my opinion.

Apple gives you less of a chance to screw anything up, but it also gives you less of a chance to customize or modify anything. Apple is sleek and trendy, Windows is piece meal and nerdy. It just depends what is more important to you.

We never got a mac because they were trendy. We simply had about 5 PCs before that were pieces of junk with all sorts of problems. The only decent one was my old Toshiba. So we got a Mac and it was problem free till I spilt a Mike's Hard on it...

Since then we've had 3 other Macs and one more Toshiba PC. All the Macs have been superb and are still going strong and the one we had issues with we got fixed within a day and pretty cheaply. The Toshiba on the other hand (which is the newest computer btw)... It's been in to be worked on god knows how many times and it STILL doesn't work.

So yeah... Mac for me. Just really have had 100x the luck with them.

Renee, I don't see how one incompetent tech who screwed you over by getting your dad to buy an overpriced piece of **** laptop is in anyway indicative of the quality of an operating system. Without knowing the specs on that laptop and what other bloatware was loaded on it, saying the price is meaningless.

And your dad seems like a chum for buying a computer that costs over $1500 to begin with o_O

It wasn't one techcompoop; he's just epitomized my experiences with Microsoft tech support. It started way before that -- over a decade before. Read my earlier post:

I don't WANT to have to mess with my computer. I don't enjoy it. I'm an unabashed end user and that's all I ever want to be. My interests lie in other directions. A computer that I DON'T have to tweak and twiddle with, that works and does exactly what I want it to do without having to waste my time and loose my train of thought talking to India or googling unhelpful help sites is the object of my game. I expect my computer to be a friendly tool, as reliable as a hammer and as versatile as duct tape, not a soul-sucking abyss of drama and frustration that has to be nurtured and tweaked and dosed with cyber viagra to perform ;)

I think the coolest is whatever works for you.
that said.. I will never again own a PC lol

I've had the vaio, the toshiba, the big, the small, the fancy.. Bad bad and worse and just ugh. No customer service, bad quality, I think each lasted about a year.

My macbook is my baby <3 best computer I've ever had, best customer service/care, I'm just overall happy with it for my needs as a student.

Now, maybe if my needs/life were different.. Id want a PC. but as it is, I think its the perfect computer for me and I'm very happy

so yea, I think my mac is the coolest kid lol
You took the words right out of my mouth! lol I absolutely LOVE my MacBook <3

I just can't see myself going back to a PC at all!!! Sometimes I have to use the PC computers at school (most times I try to get there early so I can use one of the Macs. lol) and I almost throw the stupid thing out of the window every time. It drives me insane and it is SO slow :lol-sign:

You DO all know what PC stands for right?

Personal Computer.

Ergo, all computers that you own are PC's. Computers in a computer lab in the library or in a school are, by definition, not PC's, regardless of what they run.

Macs are PC's. Computers that run Windows are PC's. Computers that run Linux are PC's. Or they could all not be PC's, depending on their usage.

Yeah... I'm pretty sure most people know that, but 99% of people refer to PC's as Dell, HP, Toshiba, etc. and Macs as Macs. And 99% of people know what they mean ;)

Makes life much easier that way :p
