I'm just curious...

How much money have you lost from your investment funds, if any? Doesn't have to be an exact figure (I know that's very personal info), just a percentage. I heard that individual retirement funds across the U.S. have lost a total of 2 trillion dollars. Ouch.

I've been lucky. Hubby and I have only lost about 5% from our retirement 401k. I know two people who have lost 30% from their retirement fund, and one who lost closer to 50%. Another person I know lost $12,000 from his daughter's college fund.

How about you?

We don't have 401K here... if I understand right it's similar to our RRSP system though... so somewhere on the order of 1% if that... mines all low risk right now (didn't have enough money to put into it when I started it to bother with anything else) so even when markets crumble I don't loose more then a few dollars... on the flip side though I don't have the same opportunity to earn on my investment as some people so it's not perfect.

Hahaha, I just checked mine. Oh dear.

-43.8%

It's to be expected though. I'm young, and invested in high risk stocks. If I were 60-something instead of 20-something, I'd be worried. I'm in it for the long term though, and in 40 years it will definitely be higher than it is now--and bonus is, I now get to buy stocks super low.

Dunno the %, as my money is tied up in my Dad's accounts for now... But he told me WE lost about $40,000 the past few months.

But I am not worried... Yet. I am still kinda young. I AM going to yank my money our as soon as he turns 60 and invest it on my own. Hopefully in March, it will still be this great market to buy in. We shall see...

My thoughts exactly. I guess it's an advantage to be young and dumb right now, LOL. I feel for those who are older. One of the people I know who lost 30% is scheduled to retire in a few months. I can't imagine being in that position.

Thankfully? I won't be investing in a 401k until March, when my employer will begin matching a certain percentage. I haven't talked to my folks yet though... I hope they haven't lost too much.

I haven't checked, but its in Treasury bonds, so it should be fine.

Thank god I hadn't moved it over to stocks yet.
